Hi, I had a user complaint that his subscription was disabled. Looking into details, his mail provider sent out lots of auto aways notices marked with Auto-Submitted: auto-replied (vacation) Should we not exclude these as being counted as bounce? (List settings are "Individual" for "Personalize" and yes for both "Include RFC2369 headers" and "Include the list post header". Regards, Andi

Logging subscriptions and unsubscriptions

Hi, I am in the process to migrate from mailman 2 to mailman 3 and currently I am setting up the new environment and do some tests and play around with the new system. I'd like to have a seperate log for list subscriptions and unsubscriptions. For that reason I added the following section to the mailman-extra.cfg file: [logging.subscribe] path: subscribe.log That created a file called subscribe.log but not everything regarding subscription / unsubscriptions is added to the file. When subscribing and unsubscribing a user via mail only the following line is shown: Aug 27 10:58:31 2021 (28) tmod(a)mm3.example.com: held subscription request from chris(a)example.com Nothing regarding the finished subscription and absolutely nothing regarding the unsubscription performed later. Unwanted E-mail to Maillists Submitted via Postorius Interface

Hi Everyone, I’ve seen a recent uptick in SPAM messages making it into mailing lists. Looking at the raw, it seems that the e-mails are being submitted thru the Postorius/Hyperkitty “Start a New Thread” interface. Is there a way to turn that off? We would want people to only be able to post via e-mail. Part of the problem is that our anti-spam system RSPAMD trusts the mailman-web IP… so it doesn’t scan things originating from there.. ☹ Another uestion: Is there a way to implement captcha, or is there a recommended gate that can be put in the signup process? Apparently bots are finding a way thru the signup process, and then sending messages to the list via the Postorius web interface. There seems to be a Django plugin for it; but it appears the Mailman code would have to be adjusted to implement it. I’m open to any suggestions, including on places to check for misconfiguration. 😊 Thanks. - Matt Alberti

Ok, I took a step back and started fresh... So the issue appears to be that mailman-core docker image is not replying on port 8024. Error on timeout vs retry values

Hi everyone, I have recently setup a new mailman3 service using the venv method. Everything is functionally working however I keep getting an error sent to the mailman email every min which I can not seem to figure out why. /opt/mailman/venv/lib/python3.7/site-packages/django_q/conf.py:142: UserWarning: Retry and timeout are misconfigured. Mailman backend maintenance task

Dear all. My apologies if the answer to this question is obvious, but I am pretty newbie for 3 version, and to be very honest I haven't had enough time yet to have a deep look into the documentation. Our customer is currently using PostGRESQL as backend, and we would like to perform some maintenance tasks, namely running vacuum full, or at least trying to rebuild hyperkitty_email primary key related index. We have been asked on the real impact of putting in place such initiative. Though the latter is related to archiving, I haven't found a way to stop just Hyperkitty or Django related processes other than stopping Mailman's core, hence preventing mails addressed to distribution lists from being delivered, could you please confirm if I am correct? Regarding the former, as far as I have read, the "mappings" lists -> addresses are stored just in the database, so if we run some kind of procedure or task like vacuum which will lock exclusively tables, or want anyway to have the database stopped for a cold backup or whatever, Mailman willl not work, that is, again the mails addressed to the distribution lists will not be delivered. Will you please confirm this point, too? Really wish we had a testing environment to have been able to check this ourselves and not bothering others, but unfortunately we lack it, and we need to provide an answer as soon as possible. Installing mailman3 from Ubuntu 20.04 repository

I’m testing Mailman3 on Ubuntu 20.04 and installing the packages from the default Ubuntu repo. I’m not sure I’ll perform the install this way once we move to production. I don’t know what group is responsible for keeping the Mainlam3 package in the Ubuntu repository up to date but I’d like to find out how committed that groups is to keeping the package current. We patch often and it would be convenient if the Mailman3 package is kept updated and current. If there is going to be some significant lag time I may decide to install manually when we go to production. Any thoughts on this? — Andy

Error when disabling signup

Dear all, over the last couple of weeks, I have installed and configured mailman3 using the docker containers. It took me some time, but now it works quite well. At last, I wanted to disable the sign-up because only LDAP users should be able to login. As described in django_mailman3/views/user_adapter.py, I added the following line to my settings_local.py: ACCOUNT_ADAPTER = 'django_mailman3.views.user_adapter.DisableSignupAdapter' After that, an error is thrown: ModuleNotFoundError at /accounts/login/ No module named 'django_mailman3.views.user_adapter' What could be the reason for that and how to solve it? Hi everyone. I have a dedicated Ubuntu box that is running mailman3. I have a single email list on it. The subscriber base is about 350 users. There is a good chunk of these users that are aol.com or yahoo.com users. I've been getting complaints from the Yahoo people that mail is delayed at times, or messages that come out of order. Looking at the mailq on the box, I can see there are plenty of emails stuck in the queue. This email server is for our neighborhood community. Its moderated to join, and we know every single user on this list. We know it's not being reported as spam by our users. Avoiding non-members to be saved.

Hi all: Yesterday I had a problem with a private list. A spammer sent a mail forging one address that was a non-member (in fact was an "accept this no subscriber mails" from mailman 2.1 import) with very bad intentions and it was distributed. There were no list of "accept this non members" in the Postorius config (but I'm sure that that address was "accepted" in 2.1). To avoid this from any other non member address I deleted ALL non-members. I think it is solved now (deleting all and putting to hold just the non-members addresses that I would want to pass messages on) The fact is that any sender address of mails sent to the list is saved as a "non member", and it make me nervous as it will grow despite it is a legitimate message or not. Anybody knows if there is a per list config to avoid saving all that addresses as non members? o a overall config? I couldn't find anything about this in the config pages (or googling it) Thanks in advance. --

I need professional help to get virtualenv Mailman3 installation running

Hello, I have been running Linux mailman2 servers for about 10 years, and sendmail/postfix servers for over 20 years. I have a client who wants to upgrade to Mailman 3 from their current Mailman2 system. I wanted to avoid the disruption of an upgrade, so I implemented a series of test servers with different names (leaving the mailman2 server in production at its historical address) running Ubuntu 18 and Ubuntu 20, using the mailman3 packages (3.1and 3.2 respectively). I sort of got it running with mailman 3.2 on Ubuntu 20, but couldn’t get Hyperkitty archiving to work. Plus the fact that mail bounce handling isn’t implemented prior to mailman 3.3.2, I decided to install the latest mailman version available in a venv environment, using the instructions at https://docs.mailman3.org/en/latest/install/virtualenv.html I followed the instructions carefully using the same paths, and tracked down and fixed errors as each step progressed. I finally set up a WSGI server according to the instructions, searched for and found (fragmentary) instructions for setting up the Apache configuration, started the mailman3 and mailman web services, and now have no errors in the /opt/mailman/web/logs files, the /var/log/apache files, and in syslog. But when I try to connect via the Web, I get the message "Server error An error occurred while processing your request.” in my browser. No other clues. I’m completely stuck, and I need help to conclude this rapidly, the client really needs the new service up and running ASAP. I’m at the limit of my competence. I’ve been learning Python on and off (insufficient available time), and I installed Django and ran the tutorials. I still am woefully unskilled in the subtleties of a complex Python project like Mailman/Posterious/Hyperkitty, and I really need the help of an expert who can log into the server and see for themselves where the problem(s) are, and fix them. What I need is an experienced Python programmer, who has installed, run, and upgraded venv mailman3 installations. Of course, I will pay for this expertise, and charge it to the end client. In other words, I will pay you directly, and then I will worry about getting paid myself later. I am ready to pay €60/h for your skills, paid directly to your bank account, after receipt of your invoice. It shouldn’t be all that much work, since everything has been installed according to instructions, I’m just not a good enough Python programmer to get all the parts to work together correctly. It’s important to note that the end client is an organisation of European political parties, the virtual machine running the Ubuntu 20 server is hosted at OVH in France. Thus the professional with whom I would work should preferably also be based in the EU, and subject to EU law. Mailman3 stopped working after Upgrade to Ubuntu 21.04

Hey, I have set up mailman3 with mailman3-web on my mailserver and after upgrading to Ubuntu 21.04 my setup stopped working. I can see repeating log entries of mailman trying to reach something within hyperkitty and getting an error. The same constant repeating cycle of log entries is visible in my log files. I have attached my config files as well as the logfiles for mailman3 and mailman-web. As you can see, I'm not really getting many errors, yet within 5 seconds there are almost 2000 lines of log entries where mailman tries to reach something within hyperkitty over and over and over again. One thing I did to create an error message is start up both services, then edit a test list, that I created, in the web interface. remove non members from a list

Hi all: I need to remove all non members from a list. I know I can do it via Postorius, but it has to be done one at a time. (you can delete ALL suscribers but not all non members...) Anyone has a python recipe to do this? I've been searching and googling but I cannot find the way of doing it safely. And via DDBB there are more than one table involved and I'd rather not mess it all... Thanks in advance

Greetings again! Is there a remote API I can use to manage a list? One of the lists I manage has 1800 or so users, the vast majority of which have never posted, and I need to remove them (preferably not one by one). The list is meant to be actively used, so going forward I want to be able to unsubscribe anyone who hasn't posted in the last year. I am trying to setup mailman3 in docker and have some questions, I can see the finish line :) i hope. I start my images and I can access the web,http://Servername.domain.com/postorius/lists/ and no list are there of course, but How do i sign in? I click the forget link and I have to enter in a email address. I put in the email address I added to the docker-compose.yaml but that does not wrok. I have these setup in the .yaml file. MAILMAN_ADMIN_USER: The username for the admin user to be created by default. MAILMAN_ADMIN_EMAIL: The email for the admin user to be created by default. I found this url http://Servername.domain.com/admin/login However I never set a password and here is no forget button, Basically once I have docker installed, and mailman3 up and no lists are available, How do I setup or/and sign in as admin? Also In docker how can I test sending mail? the command "mailman-web sendtestemail youremailid@domain" from the mailman-web container does not work. How can I make sure my containers can send and receive mail?

Hi folks. Some time ago, I set up mm3 and have been running a bunch of lists on it with great success. I was a long-time mm2 user, and while the differences are significant, I'm glad I made the switch. However, in what seems to have been a moment of insanity in retrospect, I installed mm3 from my OS' package repository. Yeah, I know, that was dumb. Now I'd like to migrate to a new server, and I'd like to install mm3 in the normal way. Is there a way that I can "dump" the configuration from an existing mailman3 server, and "import" it into a new instance? I'd really like to avoid re-doing all of the configuration, etc, as there are quite a few lists and everything is set up pretty much the way I want it. Hi, Background: I have a painful mailman3 installation based on ubuntu 18.04 packages, a mistake I regret but have to live with until I can finish a fresh install of the latest. Currently running on mailman 3.1.1-9 and python-django-mailman3 version 1.1.0-4 (if that matters). I migrated > 1200 lists from an old mailman2 installation. That brought along all of the footers (naturally), and now I'm trying to get rid of them but failing miserably. I've spent a fair bit of time reading archives of this list, but I'm still stuck. Here's what's configured... non-members issue with held email

Hi I want to check a issue with a few mailing lists of us. We do run mailman3 on debian with debian package 3.2.1-1 (not yet updated for backup reasons). We created a new mailinglist, added 3 owner and several members. Now we want some email addresses to post to that list but not receive mails from the list. So I added those to the "non-member" area of the mailinglist and checked every non-member to "acceppt at once". But on a test, a email address, which is owner AND non-member, cannot send to mailinglist, always get a "HOLD: ...... The message is not from a list member" The Email address in that HOLD log entry is the same as in the owner/non-member list. Any idea howto check the mailman3 logs for this case? Thank you. Deleting default "example.com" domain breaks everything

Hello. I'm new with v3 of mailman. Installed via aptitude on deb10. After I logged in as admin, I created my actual domain, as "example.com" was there by default. I then deleted example.com, and everything broke. The only site I had was still using example.com. How do I either a) restore example.com in config or CLI (as web UI is completely broken now), or b) move my one and only "Site 1" to the domain I created? Thanks.

Hey, all. I've installed mailman3 to replace mailman2 from the Deb10 package mailman3-full. Command line appears to work, but I had to manually add the Uwsgi module to get the user web site to run. Problems with hyperkitty

Dear mailman support, We have an issue with hyperkitty. In the last month the space used by hyperkitty_email postgres table has increased from 54GB to 400GB and it is constantly increasing with no end. Is there any simple way of knowing what is taking so much space? Like for example display how much archiving space (or achived emails) is used by each mailing list? Looks like a mailing list has gone crazy but from the logs everything looks fine. Any help is very much appreciated. THanks a lot for your precious help!!

Hi I do look out for a method to accept mails from list members and a number of 20-30 Email addresses (not list members) to a mailing list. All others should be denied to post to the list. I can add those as non-members, but AFAIK I cannot define a special rule for them in "message acceptance". Under "message acceptance" the line "non-members" is set to deny, but if I set it to "default procesessing" - will it allow ALL email addresses, or just the group of "non-member" users? Thank you. cache files?

Hi folks. I'm seeing quite a few .css files, thousands of them totaling 600+MB, building up in /var/lib/mailman3/web/static/CACHE/css. Some of them date back to when I set up the mm3 instance a few years ago. Is this expected, or am I missing a cron job or something to clean them up? I am starting small, My goal is just to get mailman3 running in docker and test the website access via curl from the host, then I will move on from there In the docker instructions it says SERVE_FROM_DOMAIN: The domain name from which Django will be served. List rename

I'm in an odd situation where I need to rename a bunch of lists. They were all created on mailman2 originally and migrated to mailman3 (very successfully, TYVM) but the names were all originally discuss-<foo>@domain and it's very confusing to be sure you're always sending to the correct <foo>. We want to completely rename the lists to <foo>-discuss@domain. These lists do not keep archives, so if I have to resort to extracting the subscriber lists and the configs and building new lists, I'm completely fine with that. Problem is, I'm really used to MM2 and config_list and could do this without thinking using those tools... that I don't have. Running MM3 3.2.2 trying to make this happen. Trying to get mailman3 stood up in Docker and having some issues following the instructions. Currently my docker-web image is not running. Today it won't start, yesterday it was exiting with 0 status immediately. I do not have a list named "MailingList".

Help with some 'withlist' configuration changes

Hi, Firstly, a repeat that I have a relatively broken (and soon to be fixed, I hope) installation of mailman3 based on Ubuntu 18.04 distrib packages (3.1.1-9) that stumbles along by me dealing with a bunch of things by hand that I hope'll go away once I'm up to the current version. In this set-up, I get a fair number of items shunted. Since I have this wonky version where stuff isn't always exposed in the web interface, I have to fix these things by hand. An example is that something gets shunted because of too many recipients, where I do: sudo -u list mailman withlist somemailmanlist m.max_num_recipients = 0 commit() sudo -u list mailman unshunt I've managed to find a number of these, such as m.max_message_size, m.require_explicit_destination, and m.administrivia. My questions are undoubtedly foolish, but here goes: 1. Is there any way to print the entire 'm' structure? If so, I'd perhaps be able to figure out the answers to my other questions. 2. Is there a way for me to correct the following shunt-ing issues with 'withlist'? I've been unable to figure out how... a. 'moderation_reasons': [ 'Message has no subject'] / 'rule_hits': ['no-subject'] b. Some things get caught as 'rule_hits': ['nonmember-moderation']. However, if I look in the (web-based) config, it shows that non-members should be accepted but the messages are shunted nonetheless. I don't know what to look for in 'm' or how I might clear these messages. 3. I have no idea what these are telling me to do about digest messages. Suggestions? Hi team, I am trying to install mailman 3.3.4, the currently available latest version at https://docs.mailman3.org/en/latest/install/virtualenv.html on RHEL 7.5. As part of the installation, I am not creating any user with the name *mailman* and instead going with the *root* user only. Along with that I am using the directory */var/lib/mailman* as the root directory. Also, I have rsyslog service running on my machine and using postgresql-11 as the database service. (and tried chown -R for the /opt/mailman folder already since everything there should be owned by mailman anyway)

Hello, we wanted to integrate a subscribe-form in our website after Update from Mailman2 to Mailman3. Before it was quiet easy and supposedly still is, but we can't figure out what to do with the CSRF-token-problem. Is there anywhere a documentation on this? We can't find one. How to identify the exact reason behind the shunting of the mails ?

Hi Team, I am currently running Mailman 3 with version 3.3.1 and in-built postfix version 2.10.1-6 on RHEL 7.5 with PostgreSQL 11.7 version with default values. I am almost running 2000 lists with 128 GB RAM and 24 Cores on a single VM and on which all the mailman 3 components are running. I have been running this setup in production for the past 2 years and 6 months. From the beginning of the above setup until recent days, I observed a few mails moving to the shunt queue now and then. But from recent days it is observed that many mails are moving to the shunt queue. I browsed many websites but I could not get a proper resolution for identifying the exact reason behind the shunting of the mails. Because of which I had been asking the user to resend the mails instead of suggesting the user regarding the issue properly. I in fact used the command "mailman qfile <filename.pck>" even then I don't understand what might be wrong with the mail composition. Most of the time I see *unknown-8bit* in To or CC fields and I don't know if it is linked with the reason for shunting or not and I don't get any clue from it either. I've just set up Mailman 3 with Hyperkitty and Postorius in venv via pip by using the guide at https://docs.mailman3.org/en/latest/install/virtualenv.html#virtualenv-inst… on Oracle Linux 8.3 with Python 3.6.8. The process seemed to go smoothly and without errors. The log file, /opt/mailman/web/logs/uwsgi-error.log, contains the following stack trace, however. SELinux is disabled, at least while I work through this issue. I've gone over the configuration files, and everything appears to be in order as written in the installation instructions, but that's likely not the case. :) My configuration files outside of the Mailman virtual environment are in /etc/mailman/: (venv) [mailman@host ~]$ ls /etc/mailman3/ mailman.cfg __pycache__ settings.py uwsgi.ini When searching the web about this, I only found one result, on this very list, but it didn't have quite enough information for me to solve my issue.
