Are there alternative search engines to Xapian that can be used for Mailman 3? I have come to understand that Xapian development stalled in the v2.0 attempt.

Find a smtp server to send out emails

Hi, This problem is not caused by mailman, but I still want to give it a shot here. I'm hosting a mailing list on top of mailman3. Emails are supposed to be sent out by AWS ses. However, ses requires that sender address must be verified, which leads to a problem that emails sent by subscribers to mailing list cannot be sent to other subcirbers, since their addresses are not verified. And it is impossible to verified every subscriber. Are there smtp service providers allowing unverified email address to send out emails, or do I have other solutions? Thanks. -- Best wishes, Leon

Moderation of held emails vs. spam

Hi, I now run Mailman 3.3.1, installed from pip. Is there now any way to prevent Mailman from forwarding the contents of the held message when notifying moderators of held messages? In my case these messages often are spam messages and if the entire contents are forwarded it triggers spam handling in the recipient address(es) which over time risks classifying all moderation emails as spam or even classifying the list domain or server as a spam source. Even my own outgoing filter classifies it as spam, which I will fix. I currently run rspamd for spam filtering, graylisting and DKIM and ARC verification/signing. Someone on this recommended it, thank you for that as it removes the need for other milters. I guess that this would be a simple change to make as a kludge but a proper implementation as a setting would be a lot better. I'd like it as a global setting but that might be too coarse. I have finished my how-to install Mailman 3 on Debian 10 completed to the point where you can use it to get a fully functional Mailman 3 environment up and running. This is a comprehensive guide that walks you through installing EVERYTHING (currently!) that Mailman 3 needs to run. It also makes updating Mailman 3/Postorius/Hyperkitty very easy. I have not added the update directions yet but will very soon. I also plan on adding a section on setting up DKIM and Xapian with Mailman 3. I hope this helps those who wish to get a Mailman 3 server up and running quickly and brings a sense of sanity to the confusion regarding the various documentation out there concerning the installation of Mailman 3/Postorius/Hyperkitty. How to Increase outgoing mail volume for Mailman 3

Hello everyone, We had a new client come on board that brought a list that had the largest out-going mail volume that I have ever dealt with. So I did what any sane server administrator would do that is running Mailman 3: I ran to Mark Sapiro for help! Here is what the Sage of all things Mailman counseled me to do: 1. Disabled VERP delivery. VERP can help improve mail delivery by delivering 1 message per SMTP transaction (I think I got that right). Using VERP is counter-productive as it can seriously delay outgoing mail delivery for a high-volume list. So you can use something like the following in the MTA section of your mailman.cfg: [mta] verp_confirmations: no verp_personalized_deliveries: no verp_delivery_interval: 0 2. I configured Mailman 3 to run 4 outgoing runners. The default is 1. This action was the game changer. It allows Mailman to handle 4 incoming messages at a time instead of 1. My client's incoming list volume was high enough where it was overwhelming the single outgoing runner. Here is what I added to the mailman.cfg file: [runner.out] instances: 4 Doing this step immediately solved the backlog in var/queue/out. 3. If you start up with a new server for a list that is high volume then keep an eye out for Proofpoint and Vade Security as they will block your new IP address quicker than Mark Sapiro can say "This is a bug. Questions regarding message acceptance

Hello, I have few questions regarding usage of Mailman3: 1) We have list1 and list2 with members. Can we specify that all members of list1 can post messages to list2? We could potentially write a script that would synchronize members of another list to “Accept these non-members” of another list, but with thousands of lists it will be difficult to maintain lists in synchro. So perhaps there is a concept of adding another list to “Accept these non-members” and mailman real-time evaluate membership of another list upon message arrival? 2) In explanation of “Accept these non-members” it’s written: “While non-regexp addresses can be entered here, it is preferred to add the address as a nonmember and set the nonmember's Moderation to Default Processing”. I noticed that if someone posts to a list then he is added automatically to non-members. Which means that next time he will be able to post. My understanding is that it’s better to use the feature “Accept these non-members”. Am I correct? Thank you, Paweł

hello there, i migrated to a new host last night and i've been getting this error from a cronjob mail every minute. anyone have any ideas what would cause this? Splitting hosts: mta&core vs postorius

I'm trying to set up mailman3 on two hosts, one of which runs core + exim, the other runs postorius (&possibly hyperkitty). I have I think got core set up correctly, and postorius is sort of usable, but anything in the web ui that talks to core ends up with a white screen. I think what is happening is a postorius URL ends up with the core (or perhaps no) hostname, and as there's nothing there to answer it fails. I've checked the settings and I don't think I have misconfigured postorius. Is it possible that the bad url is being passed from core to postorius in some way and reused without changing the host? In the config at present, both hosts are visible to the browser, and each host can communicate with the other. Any ideas on how to pin down the problem better? Ruth

Loops back to myself

Hi, I have a problem with my Mailman 3-setup. The symptom is that postfix rejects non-existing addresses for my list domains with <adr(a)example.com>: mail for example.com loops back to myself What I guess happens happens is that postfix for some reason accepts the mail as it is for a relay domain and finds that it is not deliverable locally as the address does not exist locally and then tries to relay it on to the appropriate MX server, which is itself and then fails and generates a bounce message. This is a bit annoying as I have set up postfix to only accept valid addresses. I have set the transport_maps, local_recipient_maps and relay_domains to the files generated by MM3. I run an older version of MM3 (3.0) but prefer to fix this without upgrading as upgrading is a relatively big undertaking. This is mostly a backscatter problem for spam I guess. Any ideas of very simple and easy to forget things that I've probably missed? Cheers // David

Mailman3 stopped sending out mail

Hello. Recently my mailman3 instance stopped distributing mail. But mailman's own mail (notification, digest etc) and archiving are working OK. Mailman 3 - Header Filter

I am a Mailman neophyte and need help with filtering posts based on the subject field. We have a few list owners that want 'Out of Office' replies discarded. When using the below syntax in Postorius/Header filter the post is not discarded but ends up in 'Held Messages'. Is there any syntax I am missing or a setting in the lists that needs to be disabled/enabled to get these posts dropped? Any help is much appreciated. Importing mbox files into archive defect with lines with From

A curious problem, but seems to be well defined. I am importing mbox format files with 25 years worth of archives in 250 files from a Listserv list into hyperkitty. All is going swimmingly, except I get lots of partial emails with sender of None put into the current month, with text that has clearly been truncated. As I look at each one, I see that the line in the imported text is immediately after a line starting with 'From'. Clearly, 'From:' is an RCS-82 header, but 'From ' is not, and yet there is much evidence here that this is messing up the import. Is this a known bug? If not, how do I report it?

Strange issue with bounce processing

Dear List, First of all Merry Christmas to those of you that are observing it. I have an issue on one of my Mailman 3 servers. The bounce runner is not running, even after restarting mailman core. All the other runners are working fine. Here is the problem, after restarting it, a number of messages show up in queue/bounces from a single list. However the bounce runner is still not running. So I remove these messages from queue/bounces folder and restart mailman core. The same messages show up from the same single list again in queue/bounces. In the var/logs/bounce.log file, addresses from this list are being logged as being removed after starting mailman core. They correlate with the messages showing up in queue/bounces. I assume these "cached" bounces are what is interfering with the running of the bounce runner. I don't see anything in the mailman or mailmansuite log that would explain this behavior. Okay, so I got the webservice of Mailman3 up and running, but when I go to mailman3/postorius/lists/, I get the following error: Something went wrong Mailman REST API not available. Please start Mailman core. When I logged in to the admin user, it threw a server 500 error, but I could refresh and see myself logged in. If I try to go to lists or mailman settings, however, I get the error above.

Delete Django profiles not signed up to a list

Hi, I have noticed recently I have around 2000 bogus sign-ups that have created accounts in Django. Looking through the logs these have come from the Postorius sign-up pages. I checked and email confirmation is required before the accounts are created and the email addresses that have been used do seem like they could respond to these requests. I don't want to add captchas to the form right now but is there any way to clean out these users from the database perhaps periodically based on whether the accounts are subscribed to any list? Hi ! I need simple add/delete member to list using rest ..... but all documentation is for python and not helpfull for me, .... and I need these in CLI using curl command .... Hi, Currently, I use a nginx configuration for mailman. It's work perfectly. I tried to do the same with Apache, but the statics files are not delivered (404). Adding user - Error 409 Subscription request already pending

We have a couple of people trying to subscribe to our list but receive an error similar to: {"title": "409 Conflict", "description": "Subscription request already pending"} If I try to Mass Subscribe them in Postorius I get this error: HTTP Error 409: b'{"title": "409 Conflict", "description": "Subscription request already pending"}' In Postorius I don't see them hung up in Subscription requests. I hope this is helpful to the Ubuntu folks out there. Once some critical small things were figured out, turns out it's pretty easy to get Mailman 3 running successfully under Ubuntu 18.04. The linked google doc includes my own walkthru, which includes using a cloud server image for Ubuntu 18.04 and a LAMP setup with Apache 2 and PHP, as well as Python and PostgreSQL, and the mailman3-full package that comes with that Ubuntu distribution. Hi all, Is the documentation correct that ARC should be as simple to configure in mailman 3 as to add the private DKIM key and restarting mailman? (https://mailman.readthedocs.io/en/latest/src/mailman/handlers/docs/arc_sign…) I've tried that without finding any effect in my so far limited tests. I have not found anything in logs although I might have missed looking in one. Are there any known limitations? I have previously a working DKIM signature on outgoing mail as well as correctly set up SPF in DNS and SPF-checking on received mail. The verification on incoming mail adds a few headers but I do not think that that should be an issue, neither would the DKIM signing change anything should mailman add new headers. I now run Mailman 3.2.3 (La Villa Strangiato) on Python 3.7.4. Cheers // David

Hi, This seems to me like basic simple questions, I have tried FAQ and other resources, with not much success. I have two questions: 1. When I send an email to a list, in gmail and yahoo I see the following text with the links at the end of the email body: _______________________________________________ Testlist_dmark1 mailing list - listname(a)domain.tlb<mailto:testlist_dmark1@newlistserv.aaas.org> To unsubscribe send an email to listname-leave(a)domain.tlb In<mailto:listname-leave@domain.tlb%0b%0bIn> outlook this is added as an attachment in the form of a TEXT file, when you open it, you see the same text. Question: Is there a way to change this, that it looks in outlook the same way as it appears in gmail/yahoo? I know MS does it own stuff sometime and we have no impact on that, but I was thinking maybe we might change the footer in a way that outlooks sees that as part of email body. 2. How may I change the format and the text in footer? I was expecting it under list > setting, in postorius, but I could not find it. Time Zone Problem In Postorius

I have the server TZ set to EST. I have the TZ for Postfix set to EST. I have the following set in my settings_local.py file: TIME_ZONE = 'America/New_York' USE_TZ = True However messages showing up in the pending moderation queue box shows UTC date. I am seeing this behavior in Affinity as well so I figured it is either a Mailman core setting or perhaps database? Can anyone shed light on that? Brian

Hi, on a fresh debian 10 (mail server) I added mailman3 with: apt-get install mailman3-full dpkg-reconfigure mailman3 dpkg-reconfigure mailman3-web The server name is webserver-A Then I log in in webserver-A/mailman3 as a superuser I created a domain for webserver-A and domain-A The I created a list-A Then I created a second domain for webserver-B and domain-B Then I added to apache config a virtual host for webserver-B I log in webserver-B as the some superuser of webserver-A and I created a list-B But when I list the lists I can see both under webserver-A and webserver-B. The some problem with archiving hyperkitty. I search internet for a while and I discovered that using FILTER_VHOST = True seems to solve the problem. >From posotrius config page: FILTER_VHOST Filter the list of available lists in Postorius and Hyperkitty depending on the domain they are being currently served from. Mailman 3 supports multiple domains in a single installation. But it doesn't work. I got err 500 form apache. Were can I find an explanation or a how to configure the system to have 2 webserver with different domains working on the some server as it was with mailman 2? P.S.: I upgrade postorius to V. 1.3.2 and djando V 2.2.12 using the packages in testing distribution. Postorius fails to show list because of a large message being held

Hi, Recently a member of one of our private lists sent a message with a picture attached. Because of the large message size (23MB) it was put into the moderation queue. But since then postorius fails to open the list's page with this error: Something went wrong Mailman REST API not available. Please start Mailman core. Moderation Action Changed After Import

I migrated a Mailman 2 list using import21 and the list's config.pck into a Mailman 3 list. The list owner reported back that about 98% of the list members had their moderation setting changed to Reject (with notification). He said the previous moderation was the list's default which was hold for moderation. Is such a thing possible with an import job? Hello, Our company is evaluating mailman3 as an option for company internal list serving. One of the requirements is that anyone with access to the list server be allowed to create and manage lists. Is this possible? If so, how? Is there a "create list" role that can be added for all registered users? Thanks

List rename

I'm in an odd situation where I need to rename a bunch of lists. They were all created on mailman2 originally and migrated to mailman3 (very successfully, TYVM) but the names were all originally discuss-<foo>@domain and it's very confusing to be sure you're always sending to the correct <foo>. We want to completely rename the lists to <foo>-discuss@domain. These lists do not keep archives, so if I have to resort to extracting the subscriber lists and the configs and building new lists, I'm completely fine with that. Problem is, I'm really used to MM2 and config_list and could do this without thinking using those tools... that I don't have. Running MM3 3.2.2 trying to make this happen. I've imported a list from Mailman2 and had the owner send a message for testing purposes. His message are moderated per the list configuration. The message is delivered to Mailman3 and shows that it's being held. However if we attempt to view the message in Postorius web UI then an error is thrown. In the web interface the error is simply "Mailman REST API not available. Please start Mailman core." But Mailman Core is running and we can do other functions just fine. Our superuser account receives a much more detailed message with the subject below. [Django] ERROR (EXTERNAL IP): Service Unavailable: /postorius/lists/cpa-announcement.caltech.edu/held_messages Does "Service Unavailable" mean I'm missing something in the configuration? postfix malformed address with confirm replies

I’m getting bounces back from postfix (553 5.1.3 Error: malformed address) for my confirm replies. I found a similar issue in this lists’ archives back in 2017 but that issue was supposedly fixed in version 3.2 I’m running the current docker containers. Hyperkitty "All Threads" results in error

So I have been wrestling with this problem for a while now. Most times, but not every time, when someone clicks on the All Threads link in hyperkitty, a 500 error is generated. Hello, I've setup a mailman3 for an organization. Organization members are authenticated by an LDAP backend and can thus use the web UI to subscribe. To avoid unnecessary moderation, I'd like to disable subscription by mail but still allow subscription through the web interface. Import Archives Assistance

I am working with a client in importing a large MM2 mbox file (around 1GB in size) into a Mailman 3 list using: /opt/mailman/mm/bin/django-admin hyperkitty_import --no-sync-mailman -l list@listdomain list.mbox I planned on syncing after the import. Well, the client did not have enough memory on the server for the above job and it crashed in the middle of it. I informed the client who added more memory to the VPS. I went and deleted the partial archives via Hyperkitty and proceeded with the above import job again. The job finished but it seems only the messages that were imported were those AFTER the crash happened. Disable archives per list

Hello, we are about to migrate our Mailman 2 instance to Mailman 3. As we are hosting many (small) mailing lists for different customers, we get in trouble about future handling of mail archives. Mailman 2 just used mbox files per list and flat files for public archive, so archives do not matter apart from some storage. With hyperkitty, all messages for all lists are stored in on single database and I'm a little bit scared of a single database table with dozens of GB of data. Many of our users do not really need archiving, some customers also asked archiving to be disabled for legal reasons within their lists. Can I as the server admin disable archiving (or set other list options) in a way that the list admin can not change it via postorious? Can I have custom archiver settings per list or per domain (customer-specific hyperkitty)? regards, Bernd

Salutations; For context, I have been lurking on this site for a number of years now, in order to track the progress of this wonderful mailman3 project. Further context, I am chair of a 66 unit condominium and pay for two lists provided by EMWD.com and get a hands on feel from an mailman3 operations perspective. *Is there another site that might best communicate the future goals, plans, objectives, and time frames for mailman3 or is the status of the project at the state of being primarily reacting to problems, as evidenced in this problem solving forum, at least as it seems to me, with no offense meant or intended?* Something I find surprising is a problem described in an image grab below relating to an inability to amend a list entry to include a name to be associated with an email address, as if the data needs to be immutable. When a workaround was unsuccessfully explored to delete the entry and then resubmit an amended entry but with the same already deleted email address, that was still refused, presumably because of pointers to archived data don't permit, but this seems like a particularly onerous restriction, or perhaps even a bug, or at least a severe design constraint. *Is this item on an existing to do list?* *Comments please?* Thank you in advance for any responses to the questions in bold to facilitate faster reading, etc. Best regards. But the messages from my mailman3 server does not have the links. What configuration am I missing? Correcting name spellings in a list

I typo'd some full names in a mailing list. I want to correct them ... I can't see a way to do that in the Member Options, so I thought I'd try "remove" and re-add, either from the command line or the UI. But the name gets readded with the typo intact. :( Is there a way to fix it without writing SQL? Best guide for installing from pypi

Hi. I've got a partial mailman3 install done and, based on the documentation, am not sure how to complete it! (this is my first time) I've installed mailman3 (3.3.3) on a Debian 10 server using python3.7, mysql, postfix, apache, etc. and have run the install using pip3 install mailman. The "mailman info" command works, version shows "3.3.3 (Tom Sawyer)" the databases creates, tables, all exist, etc. So it seems the necessary services are running. I'm running froxlor on the server to configure the non-mailman services (apache, ssl, postfix, etc). I had also tried apt install mailman-full but it was an older version, so using the pypi route ensured I was on the latest version. Looking at https://docs.mailman3.org/en/latest/install/virtualenv.html, what I can't figure out is: 1) There is no /opt/mailman/ user - the user installed seems to be "list" 2) Is a virtual environment needed for a production environment? 3) if django is setup properly or the webservice is working 4) I've tried to connect to some web interface (posterious/hyperkitty/some mailman3 web frontend) via lynx to localhost:8001 on the local machine - but it has a 404 error Anyone got any tips as to next steps? (I'm also happy to pay someone to coach me through it!) Cheers, Duane

Help with troubleshooting mailman3 DNS lookups

Dear users, hoping someone can point me in the right direction. Since we set up mailman3 on Ubuntu last year we have migrated to new DNS servers. The Ubuntu host's systemd-resolved service is correctly using the new DNS servers for lookups and postfix is honouring the change as well. However when messages are sent to mailman3 lists we're still seeing hits on the old DNS servers. I have tried to find a config that references the old servers but have not been able to find one. Can anyone provide a tip on where to look next or if there is something that mailman3 requires to recognise the change? Bounce Problems

Dear List, I experience some strange effects regarding the bounce handling. The lists are configured with a bounce_info_stale_after = 7d and bounce_score_threshold = 5. (full config dump here: https://pastebin.com/42uTkdTJ) It just happend, that a user has been disabled but should not when regarding the config. The bounce log for the user looks like this: (see here: https://pastebin.com/bWRPa88H) If I understand the settings correctly, bounce_info_stale_after = 7d means that any bounce received > 7d ago are not counted (which would be intuitive). It seems, that there must be a 7d gap between the last bounce received and a new bounce to get the score reset to 1. Is my interpretation right? Is this intentional? Can this be changed? A new issue with installation

As usual, a new issue has arisen with installing Mailman 3. It seems Postorius and Hyperkitty want to install a module called cryptography. Which I am unable to install because of this: error: Can not find Rust compiler Question 1: Is cryptography a new addition to Hyperkitty/Postorius? Or was cryptography always included and something else is different about my installation process? "Building wheels for collected packages: hyperkitty, django-haystack, django-mailman3, mailmanclient, robot-detection, rcssmin, django-allauth, cryptography" Question 2: Will Hyperkitty/Postorius work without cryptography? I haven't proceed with this installation once I received the above error. I've just made a test creating a user in postorius to change an address that already has a suscription (from mailman 2.1). It's a test address with the digest enabled to be aware from any problem in the digest sending messages (e.g. I had to change all digest addresses to mime whe I did the migration from 2.1) The fact is that I cannot find from which template or Weblate term chains it could be from, and the address confirmation email is a language mix in spanish and english. I copy it down. I would like to translate it all, but as said, I cannot find where to do it. I wonder if it's comes from another package as allauth or something like this. How to modify system preferences

Hello everyone, I've been making headway with getting Mailman 3 to run how I like it. However I've hit something of a road-block with system preferences. By that, I'm referring to the default set of preferences set out in the documentation here: https://docs.mailman3.org/projects/mailman/en/latest/src/mailman/rest/docs/… The documentation states that these are only accessible in a read-only format via the REST API, but presumably there is a way of modifying these somewhere? I can't find a way of specifying this in my config and can't find a relevant example in the sample schema.cfg. At this stage, all I want to do is set the default for "receive_own_postings" to False. spanish localization

I contributed in january to translate to spanish all the items left in Mailman Core, Django-mailman, HyperKitty and Postorius via Weblate. I thought they will be used in the next upgrade, but I cannot see any improvement and there are many words untranslated. Is there any way to upgrade the .po files in order to get the last translation? P.S.: I will follow translating the Weblate updates, by the way.

Mailman, etc. upgrade woes and persistent bugs

I just had my Mailman suite upgraded. When it got started, I starting receiving messages that hundreds of subscribers to the lists had been disables, including several of the list moderators. This version started supporting bounce processing, but how in the world was this upgrade allowed to act on bounces that were being collected PRIOR to enabling bounce processing?? I got many angry emails, messages and phone calls asking what was going on, as they were bona fide list members. I was very surprised myself. I then looked at several of the disabled accounts, but the subscription info page in Postorius had no information about whether an account was enabled or disabled. Why is this not displayed???. The members can't see if their account is enabled. Is this another example of the disconnect between Mailman and Postorius? Further, even after the upgrade, the moderators still cannot access the list memberships even though all the lists are set to allow that. I would have asked the moderators to do this if this access bug had been fixed, but they can't get there. As a result of these bugs, after consulting with Brian, who helped with the upgrade, I spent many hours re-enabling the several hundred accounts that had been disabled. I had to go through each email notification to find the address of a disabled account, then find the list, then the member, in Postorius, and finally enable the account (at which time Postorius DID show the enabled status). Please, can the next upgrade include these very basic fixes/enhancements, which I requested a long time ago: a. The ability of moderators to see the list membership (a bug). b. The ability of members to change their addresses for all lists they are subscribed to. and further, now: c. That when members go to look at their subscription info, they can actually see the settings. Thank you, Allan

Steve, What I mean by per-user permissions is that some transitions, for example bounce-disabled to enabled, should be only possible by someone with appropriate permission to do so -- perhaps the list admin, perhaps someone else, but not just anyone. Another example _could_ be if a user disables themselves then only that user can re-enable them again (though I can see that might not be good). Of course, you can to some extent group users by role, so 'admin' role is always ok, 'list-owner' role is ok for any action on that list, etc. If you had a 'role' which was 'account-owner' then you can probably code the rule for re-enabling an account disabled by the account owner as "role = admin or role = list-owner or role = account-owner". Whether this needs to be extended to "role=admin or user = guy" (where 'guy' is a named account holder) I don't know... I suspect it would be better if that wasn't done unless it was shown to be necessary, as "here be dragons". Do you see where I'm at? In writing this up it occurs to me that being able to see/edit rules such as these, stored in per-list config, would probably be a good thing. Don't know how practical that is though. Rebuilding a list index fails

Now that I’ve got my instance back up and running on the latest released code, I am trying to rebuild a list index. I am using Xapian via haystack, which worked beautifully before my recent list meltdown. Error messages below. rebuild_index fails with the same error. This is with django version 3.0.12. So I did the latest mailman upgrades within my venv (per the instructions got from Brian Carpenter when he installed it for me) to the latest version. I had a strange CPU pegging issue that turned out to be mailman struggling with a malformed message but in the process of debugging that I downgraded to the previous mailman release. The resulted in a broken web interface. Today, while debugging, I did a pip install --upgrade of all the components as listed in a previous thread. Now none of the mailman3 processes will start. Doing a bin/mailman-post-update results in the error message below, which are consistent with the issues I saw earlier when trying to access the web interface. Anyone got a solution to this? I suspect it’s something simple, but django is just not my area of expertise. Here's another question that I have. A regular message just came into my email from one of the lists I'm a member of and it had a 3 line footer. The first two lines are fine, they just include the list's email address and an address to send unsubscribe requests to. The third line is this: %(web_page_url)slistinfo%(cgiext)s/%(_internal_name)s It looks to me like it should be a link to the group's list info page. Is this a bug or is there something I can do to fix it? It looks like it might be missing a forward slash after the first "s".

Unknown templates being used

I'm a list owner who has recently (within the last week) had my lists migrated from mailman 2 to mailman 3. The UI that we are using is Affinity. I've reviewed all of the list templates and begun to customize some of them. My issue is that I'm receiving messages that don't match any of the templates. Here is an example of one that I just received this morning. (The x's are inserted by me. The actual message provided valid addresses.) The xxxxxxxxxx(a)xxxxxxxxxx.org list has 1 moderation requests waiting. Held Subscriptions: User:xxxxxxxxxx@gmail.com Please attend to this at your earliest convenience. When I log in to review the request it appears to be a subscription request awaiting approval. I had previously modified the "Moderator Approval Subscription" template, which is what I would expect to have received in this circumstance. I administer several lists and have received some messages that do use the newly modified template so I assume I did it correctly. Any idea where the template for this message came from? Thanks!

Dealing with recipients' servers spam filtering

Hi, I run a mailman3 instance with mainly private lists for which I know and trust every single member. Some of them have Hotmail email addresses, and the messages they send though our lists are rejected as being spam by most of the recipients' mail servers, while these are legitimate emails. I'd welcome any pointer to best practices / howtos regarding mailman3 / exim4 configuration to mitigate this problem. Many thanks in advance, _g.

Mailman 3 installation from latest Debian packages

Hi, I've installed mailman3-full 3.3.3-1 from Debian bullseye (Debian testing). The dropdown controls on the UI for Postorius (e.g. "Subscription requests", "Mass operations" and the username button to log out) and the similar controls on Hyperkitty (e.g. "Threads by month") do not work. You can see the latter at http://newlistszm.gbif.org/mailman3/hyperkitty/list/test@newlistszm.gbif.or… I found https://lists.gem5.org/archives/list/gem5-announce@gem5.org/ which is running the same version, but presumably not using these Debian packages as the Javascript is slightly different. Could this be a problem with the Debian packaging, or perhaps my configuration -- which is very close to the defaults (i.e. Mailman and Apache configuration generated by dpkg). Has anyone set up a working installation using these packages? ## Install Mailman 3 The idea is to install Mailman 3 in ad docker container. Also I want to install Postfix in a container. All the mail which will send and receive should handled in a docker container. The reason is, that on the server only applications in a docker environment working. There is no MTA installed. On the server are Discourse as forum, wikijs, portainer, watchtower, homepage, and the NGINX Proxy Manager installed. At next I need Mailman 3. I don't know how to install and run Postfix for Mailman in a docker environment. Here is my first try. I can visit the site lists.example.com, but I can not set the Admin password. I think the reason is, that the MTA not working. I have a gitlab repo. I tried to access a 'held' message and got the 'Mailman REST API not available. Please start Mailman core.' error message. Problems with web interface after upgrade

Hi, I just applied all the recipes that have been recently posted for upgrading (pip install --upgrade of all pieces, migrate, collectstatic) The compress part refuses to work "OFF_LINE", whatever that is. I tried with mailman running and stopped. I can access hte main Postorius page and the basic list information, but I cannot login nor access the archives. Operations end on two exceptions logged to the log file (and two mail messages to the owner = me). Very similar to what I get if I try to --force the "compress". I'm sure I'm missing somethning, but do not know what ... Thanks! Hyperkitty_import.py Error

I am trying to import some old archives (going back to 2003) into a Mailman 3 list. The import job is terminating very early in the process with the following error: IndexError: string index out of range 1. Is there a way to fix a mbox file that is generating this type of error? 2. If a message is causing this error, is there a way to import the rest of the mbox file by importing messages after a certain date within the mbox file? I know the --since flag should be able to do that but I am unsure what the date/time format should be. 3. The --no-sync--mailman flag indicates the possibility of doing batch imports. I just migrated a MM2 list to MM3. The client had no problem sending posts to his list with MM2. However when he posted to his MM3 list, it showed up in the moderation queue: ============ Your mail to 'dogs(a)lists.redacted.org' with the subject mailing list changes Is being held until the list moderator can review it for approval. Moderator Approval Subscription template

Hey all, I am seeing a strange issue with the Moderator Approval Subscription template. 1. First problem is that this template by default does not include a URL to the list admin page of said mailing list. Mailman 2's notifications did. 2. Problem 1 can be solved by editing the template and adding the List Owner (admin) url to moderate the subscription. However in the case of long URLs, the URL is getting cut-off in Thunderbird. Not sure about other email clients. So something like: https://list.redeacted.org/admin/list/oligodendroglioma.list.redacted.org comes through to Thunderbird like: https://list.redacted.org/admin/list/oligodendroglioma.list.redact (<-- This is hyperlinked but leaves out the ed.org portion) ed.org (<--- This is not hyperlinked) -- Brian Carpenter Harmonylists.com Emwd.com

Postorius upgrade issue

Folks, I upgraded mailman-web and mailman-core to 3.3.3 in the manner suggested recently (pip install -U) and all seemed well, but have now noticed a strange bug. On the Postorius list admin page (where moderated subscriptions etc can be seen) although the top horizontal menu is present and the links exist, all the links are to that page (i.e. href="#') Is this a known issue, and how can I fix it? KeyError: 'get_requests_count' after an upgrade

I've just upgrade mailman 3 installation following Mr. Sapiro advice: did a pip install --upgrade django-mailman3 hyperkitty mailman mailmanclient mailman-hyperkitty postorius I did a "python3 manage.py migrate" after, too. And all seemed to run well. All the lists showed in postorius via web, but when I try to accesss into one of them the browser shows an error. Hi, I have created a footer via the webUI "Templates" option, but it is not included in the mails distributed by the mailinglist. From information given in other threads, I checked the DB, and the entry for this footer is created in the template table. The uri for the footer is http://localhost:8000/postorius/api/templates/list/..., but there is no process listening on port 8000. Do I need to install/configure something additionally to get a process listening on port 8000? Thanks in advance,Eric

Module Not Found Error after update

I went to upgrade Mailman 3/Hyperkitty/Postorius on a development server: |pip install --upgrade postorius hyperkitty mailman| The above was done as the user mailman in a venv. I then proceed to run the ./mailman-post-update script in the bin directory.
