Hyperkitty: Error when rebuilding Index

Dear list members, if there is any Hyperkitty expert here, I have issues in Hyperkitty (just updated Maxkings Docker images) when rebuilding the Index. Unfortunately, there are more than 25,000 mails and I do not know which one is/might be broken. Does the error mean that the rebuilding process is incomplete or does it simply skip the erroneous message? mass subscribers disablement!?

I added the additional hosts to ALLOWED HOSTS in settings_local.py and mailman is distributing mail to subscribers again. However, I then received many emails of valid users subscriptions being disabled. What would cause that? Can subscriber management be done via command line?

Post-installation documentation?

Is post-installation documentation available for a full Mailman3 installation on a new Debian 11 machine? I am looking for a high-level "do these steps next to get a list working" document rather than an API command reference. I followed the venv documentation and the installation went ok, but still have questions about what to do next, e.g.: - why do the venv docs and admin FAQ give different nginx configs for the reverse proxy? https://docs.mailman3.org/en/latest/faq.html#confirmation-emails-to-users-h… https://docs.mailman3.org/en/latest/install/virtualenv.html#nginx-configura… - Does the 'Secret_Hyperkitty_API_Key' need to go anywhere else besides /opt/mailman/mm/mailman-hyperkitty.cfg? - For Django (presumably in /etc/mailman3/settings.py, but the docs don't say), what values to use with Postfix to set up the email back end? I have a working test list, but am not altogether sure it's set up correctly. Thanks in advance for pointers to docs beyond the installation steps. dn

List in list, mutiple reply-to addresses

Dear List, we habe observerd the following behavior, when a list is member of another list, the reply-to-address has multiple entires: list iu-all@mydomain member: iu-int@mydomain list iu-int@mydomain member: john@mydomain Case) Sender: mike@mydomain To: iu-all@mydomain john receives following mail: from: iu-int@mydomain reply-to: mike@mydomain, iu-all@mydomain If john now hits reply in mailclient, mail goes to ALL instead of just the from-address, as mailman extended the reply-to header. Tested that "Unsubscribe all" in Postorius1.3.6 is not making use of mass-subscription API while mass removal of a list of addresses already make use of the API. Any plan to change to use the API in 1.3.7? Thanks.

Hi We're preparing to migrate about 4 Mailman 2 servers to Mailman 3. In doing so, one of our list administrators has informed us that he uses "listadmin" (Petter Reinholdtsen: listadmin, the quick way to moderate mailman lists - nice free software (skolelinux.org) <http://people.skolelinux.org/pere/blog/listadmin__the_quick_way_to_moderate…> ) Does anyone know if there is an equivalent tool that works with Mailman 3? Hyperkitty messages stuck in spool

Hi. I am seeing an issue whereby messages get stuck in the /opt/mailman/var/archives/hyperkitty/spool directory. I can sometimes clear these by restarting mailman-web and sending another message through to the list but I am having trouble identifying the root cause. This is something that started happening moving to a new host running latest Debian. Using venv rather than Debian packages. Any suggestions? Thanks. Andrew.

Dear all, after upgrading his Mac to MacOS 12.0.1 Monterey, one of our users can not send send signed messages to lists using Apple Mail v. 15.0 (3693.20.0.1.32). mailman3 denys the delivery of the mail with error message: host 172.19.0.4[172.19.0.4] said: 501 Message has defects (in reply to end of DATA command) I.e. mailman does not process the message, but rejects it already in the incoming smtp session. Is that a known issue? Bulk update of members' moderation settings

I imported a list from mailman 2.1 using https://docs.mailman3.org/en/latest/migration.html. It happens that emergency moderation was set on the mailman 2.1 list, and this has resulted in all members having Moderation set to Hold. I now want to change that to Default Processing for all members. Is there a way to achieve that in bulk without clicking through the members options for each member in Postorius? Thanks, Alex

Race condition when mass subscribing same email addresses to two lists?

We are testing the latest Mailman core 3.3.5 and Postorius 1.3.6. My colleagues reported that some email addresses cannot subscribe to the lists when two of them are using mass subscribe feature to add email addresses to the list. Then I try whether I can repeat the same issue. I did this: 1) Create two lists with default setting 2) Prepare a list of 1000 fresh email addresses not added to the system before 3) Mass subscribe both lists of these 1000 email addresses around the same time with all three Pre (confirm, approved, verified) checked There are quite a lot of similar errors in mailman.log. Bug in 2.1.36?

I'm not sure if this is a bug or something about the new CSRF fix doesn't get along with something I have (mis)configured, but this definitely seems to be related. Sadly the script I use to backup mailman before upgrading I recently stopped backing up the lists themselves, so going back to 2.1.35 doesn't seem to be an option due to the .pck file version bump. Filtering signed mails

Dear all, today I recived a user complain that his messages were rejected with error "The message's content type was not explicitly allowed" I checked the list and indeed, it was configured to filter content and to allow only a very limited number of content types, namely application/pdf and image/jpeg. After some experiments, the problems seems to be the s/mime signature. The messages contain a signature: <snip> Content-Type: application/x-pkcs7-signature; name="smime.p7s" Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64 Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="smime.p7s" <snap> I added this type to the allowed MIME content type, but signed messages are still rejected. What do I miss? Moderation Action Changed After Import

I migrated a Mailman 2 list using import21 and the list's config.pck into a Mailman 3 list. The list owner reported back that about 98% of the list members had their moderation setting changed to Reject (with notification). He said the previous moderation was the list's default which was hold for moderation. Is such a thing possible with an import job? Issues with cross posted emails after upgrading to mailman 3.3.6

Since upgrading from 3.3.4 to 3.3.6 we are seeing a high instance of emails that are sent to 2 lists (EG 2 campuses). One campus will get the email and the other campus will get an email that just contains "The content of this message was lost. It was probably cross-posted to multiple lists and previously handled on another list.” Is this something new in 3.3.6? I’m trying to work out what’s going on and why it would be lost. I deployed Mailman3 last night and today we've had some "bounced" messages with headers referencing mailman(a)example.com. This has only happened with a few lists. Any ideas what causes this? We are using an SMTP relay server for incoming and outgoing messages in front of the Mailman3 service. Thanks! Mailman Suite installation on CentOS 7

Hello! I want to install fresh Mailman, which is combined with hyperkitty+postorius. After checking documentation i found, that Mailman Suite is perfect for me. But i have some misunderstandings about installation. I only found this part in documentation, which explains how to clone and start using Mailman Suite (https://docs.mailman3.org/en/latest/devsetup.html#run-the-mailman-suite-com…) But am i correct, that before doing so, i need to install mailman core, mailman client, django-mailman3 ? Hello, after correcting little discrepancies within the mm3 configuration proposals in the debian buster package and the help of Mark I am very pleased with it now. BTW: There is a very helpfull instruction for installing other mail components like dovecot/postfix/etc on https://workaround.org/ispmail/buster/ actually not yet for bullseye, but my experience is: it will come soon. So I dont understand the discussions like: "hands off debian mm3 packages". mailman3 admin from mailman2 & File location questions

Question1 We use help users with list settings, so we would log into mailman2 with the master password. So what is the best way to duplicate this for mailman3. I assume I can just use the admin account and share that password with my other admins. But I see the domain owners, but is that working? I added someone as a domain owner, and they do not see private email lists and it looks like that can not edit any list settings? There was a post that this had not yet been implemented? Any other options? Question2 Where are all the emails/archives stored? are they in /opt/mailman/...., or are they in the database? For mailman2 we had mailman located on a large volume to handle archives, just trying to see if that is the same for mailman3 or if all the data is now in the database (which will be external for our installation)?

So just want to make sure I have the latest information after searching this list and googling or have I missed something? It appears there is no way in mailman3 to delete archives. There has been discussion on implementing this, but it has not been developed? is that correct? Hi, We’re running mailman 3.3.4 (about to upgrade to 3.3.5 this week). I enabled mailman notify cron a few weeks ago to email out any pending requests for admins. I’ve now got multiple lists that keep emailing out the same outstanding holds but they can’t visible in the GUI. The requests are all duplicates as well. Dear friends, I got another problem: mailman floods my syslog. I deleted a domain/webdomain (further mentioned as deleted.org) in postorius, django web. No entries are now in /var/lib/mailman3/data/postfix_domains or postfix_lmtp or /var/lib/mailman3/lists. Unable to get mailman3 working on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS

Hi all, after upgrading an older server to Ubuntu 20.04, I tried to first upgrade my old mailman 2 installation to mailman 3. I've been on it for three weeks now, but unable to get anything working. I have long forgone the idea of upgrading and thus purged everything from mailman2 on my machine, and installed and removed mailman3 several times to no avail. My most recent try (it is currently an empty mailman installation) was done by calling apt install mailman3 mailman3-full mailman3-web and saying "yes" to every question. I'm using Mariadb as the database, and two databases called mailman3 and mailman3web (plus two users with the same names) have been created. I have configured a virtual host for apache (see below) and changed the mailman.cfg and mailman-weg.cfg to match (also see below). I have restarted both mailman3 and mailman3-web several times now, but when I try to access the site, I just get | Something went wrong | Mailman REST API not available. Please start Mailman core. plus an e-mail with subject | [Django] ERROR (EXTERNAL IP): Service Unavailable: /mailman3/postorius/lists/ I'm running | GNU Mailman 3.3.3b1 (Tom Sawyer) | Python 3.8.10 (default, Sep 28 2021, 16:10:42) Can anybody tell me what is going on? Internal server errors after upgrade

Hello community, I'm running the Docker version of MM3. I've just run: docker-compose stop docker-compose pull docker-compose up -d I am now at versions: mailman-core: 3.3.4 mailman-web: 2.2.20 I am running a 2-core, 4GB RAM VM on Linode. The web interface mostly works. However, sometimes/regularly I get a 500 Internal Server Error. In /opt/mailman/core/var/logs/mailman.log I see the errors, but they are usually different. The common thread seems they are always about some sort of database call. Reloading the page is usually successful. Did anything change with the latest upgrade in terms of database timeouts? Before this upgrade, I was never getting it. (htop does not show anything unusual.) Any leads? Thank you, Seth

Another docker upgrade question... according to the upgrade docs https://docs.mailman3.org/en/latest/upgrade-3.2.html#post-upgrade you are supposed to stop the web service and run a series of commands (compress/collectstatic/etc). How do you stop the service under Docker? If I stop the container, then I cannot access the manage.py command. Thanks, Seth

How to change rest APi password

This is probably s stupid question but I have been searching for an answer. How do you set a different rest api password? The instructions say : The credentials are set in the [webservice] section of the configuration using the admin_user and admin_pass properties. But what is that referring to? I am running docker, so is this in the docker.yaml file (I tried it there it did not work) or in the Django config file or someplace else?

I'm unclear on how to approve via email a message sent to a list. As list owner you receive a 'requires approval' email. It then says: "If you reply to this message, keeping the Subject: header intact, Mailman will discard the held message. Do this if the message is spam. If you reply to this message and include an Approved: header with the list password in it, the message will be approved for posting to the list. The Approved: header can also appear in the first line of the body of the reply." Question: if I want to approve the message, where do I "...include an Approved: header with the list password in it" ? TY!

Mailman import of 2000 lists

I'm working on importing nearly 2000 lists and have been doing some testing prior to migrating from Mailman2. I'm using the mailman create command via for loop. It takes quite a while to do all the work including updating MySQL and re-generating the LMTP files for each list. As the number of lists increases the process gets slower. Do you have any recommendations for speeding up this process? I am running the system in AWS using EFS for storage of the LMTP files. Thanks! -- Dan Caballero Caltech

After accessing the web-interface via https://my.mailinglistserver.local/mailman3/postorius/lists/ I receive Not Found: /mailman//postorius/lists/ [pid: 1346851|app: 0|req: 4/4] 10.254.253.12 () {70 vars in 1369 bytes} [Mon Oct 25 10:39:59 2021] GET /mailman3/postorius/lists/ => generated 2821 bytes in 12 msecs (HTTP/1.1 404) 5 headers in 155 bytes (1 switches on core 1) Where does the wrong path come from (mailman vs. mailman3) After enabling Debug, i see in the browser the following: Page not found (404) Request Method: GET Request URL: https://my.mailinglistserver.local/mailman//postorius/lists/ Using the URLconf defined in urls, Django tried these URL patterns, in this order: ^$ ^postorius/ ^hyperkitty/ ^user-profile/delete$ [name='mm_user_account_delete'] ^user-profile/$ [name='mm_user_profile'] ^accounts/ ^admin/ The current path, /postorius/lists/, didn't match any of these. equivalent mailman 3 commands from 2.0

For my 2.0 environment, I have scripts to dump list info, but i can't find the equivalent in mailman 3, for some commands, for example I use: /usr/lib/mailman/bin/list_lists which equates in mailman3 to "mailman lists" /usr/lib/mailman/bin/list_members which equates in mailman3 to "mailman members [listname]" But I also use /usr/lib/mailman/bin/list_admins [listname] /usr/lib/mailman/bin/config_list [listname] Are there equivalent command line commands to get this info in mailman3? The mailman3 "mailman withlist [listname]" takes me into an interactive prompt not sure where to go from there. I can use the API curl --user [ADMIN]:[password] http://[IP]]/3.1/lists/[listname]/config | python3 -m json.tool But just curious if there is a command line equivalent like in mailman2?

Mailman and Exim 4.94.2 (Debian Bullseye)

Hi. I moved Mailman instance to a machine running Debian Bullseye last week. Ran into an issue with the Exim transport from this doc: https://docs.mailman3.org/projects/mailman/en/latest/src/mailman/docs/mta.h… The issue I ran into was that Exim wasn't able to resolve localhost in order to connect to the LMTP listener. I changed VPS provider at the same time (moved from Bytemark to Gandi) so not sure if they were doing anything different with DNS, but by default Exim doesn't use standard libraries to lookup hosts: https://www.exim.org/exim-html-current/doc/html/spec_html/ch-the_dnslookup_… I solved the issue by using the following configuration on the Mailman router: # /etc/exim4/conf.d/transport/55_mm3_transport mailman3_transport: driver = smtp protocol = lmtp allow_localhost gethostbyname hosts = localhost port = MM3_LMTP_PORT rcpt_include_affixes = true I haven't defined the lmtp settings at all in mailman.cfg meaning they are using the default settings of 127.0.0.1:8024. Is this the best modification to make to the Exim config or should I go an alternative route? Thanks. Andrew.

Hi everybody, as per subject, I'm getting this error in the hyperkitty log when mailman daemon tries to archive a mail. I've setup the hyperkitty.cfg file with api_key = MAILMAN_ARCHIVER_KEY in settings_local.py but still nothing. I've seen here and in GitLab issues some errors concerning a wrong api key but here it says that it wasn't sent at all. All packages installed via pip install + latest .zip release, including mailman-hyperkitty. Currently running on apache with mod_wsgi_py3 without https. Any clue? All the best, Marco Marinello

I'm getting (many) uncaught bounce messages for one user. Other than forcibly unsubscribing them, is there anything I can do? I've encountered an issue where Mailman3 is looking for an older jquery package after updating HyperKitty to 1.3.5. I found the error below via Firefox developer tools. Postorius web issues after upgrading mailman 3

Hello, I hope someone could help me in relation to this issue. I have experienced some error with my mailman3 deployment (only in postorius web) after went through the upgrading procedure following https://docs.mailman3.org/en/latest/upgrade-3.2.html#upgrading-mailman-3 I believe this is nothing else then the wrong css/js files gone to the wrong directory or they aren't implemented properly. Basically some part of it works ok and some doesn't. The following web pages doesn't seem to be implementing the css/js files is Archives, Account, Posting Activity, Log in and Log out web pages. API privileges question for mailman3

In mailman3 documentation it says: "Because the REST server has full administrative access, it should never be exposed to the public internet. By default it only listens to connections on localhost." So I just wanted to confirm there is no way to limit API access? For example I have a group that wants to use API access to mange their mail lists, but from what I can gather, if I give them access to the API they would have access to ALL the mail lists etc.. I would suspect this is even true if I give them their own domain? Is there anyway to limit access via the API to certain lists etc.....

I'm posting here first (rather than submitting a bug report on GitLab) because I'm not sure if I've overlooked a configuration setting. We're running the latest versions of the various Mailman 3 packages on Ubuntu 20.04, using Postfix as the MTA. Mailman 3 has been configured to apply DMARC mitigation unconditionally, replacing From: with the list address. The situation we're seeing is that if person A sends an email from a Google account to Mailman 3 and receives the (modified) post back from Mailman 3, the message ID is not being changed. Google's behaviour then is not to show that message to the user because it thinks it is the same message that the user sent out. Since Mailman 3 is modifying the message, it ought to have a different message ID. Is that a configuration setting I've missed or a bug, please? Thank you. Regards Philip

Is there any way to get a copy of the mysql/mariadb table schema that I can then pour the existing data into (i.e. I don't want to reinitialise the db)? Trying to set up mailman3 on my mail server

I'm having a lot of trouble with trying to set up mailman3 on my mail server. It's on an AWS instance, running Ubuntu 20.04 LTS. All software is installed from Ubuntu packages. Mailman version is 3.2.2. The problem I am trying to troubleshoot first is how this can be happening: Oct 14 11:27:26 2021 (2341) ACCEPT: <f36e1ed0-9d25-b661-9c94-4ce999f6d5fd(a)elyograg.org> Oct 14 11:27:27 2021 (2344) Cannot connect to SMTP server 127.0.0.1 on port 25 From the shell, I can "telnet localhost 25" successfully, even as the "list" user. Apparmor is disabled. The UFW firewall is enabled, which allows all traffic on the loopback interface. I disabled ipv6 at the kernel level, but had the same problem with ipv6 enabled, so I don't think ipv6 is related at all. I do not see any connections in the postfix log that correspond to the mailman connection error. From a fresh install of mailman, I created two mailing lists. Once upon a time I had those lists active on a Debian 6 machine running mailman 2.1.13 ... I copied the mailing list config from that machine over and used the "import21" facility to import the configuration into the new mailman3 install. That worked without error and I can see the lists and their members with the "mailman" command. I found instructions for integration with postfix, and added the required three config lines to the postfix config. When I try to send a message to the list, I get what I pasted above in the mailman log. I think that means the postfix integration is working, and is forwarding to mailman. I'm hoping somebody can give me some pointers, and if more information is needed for troubleshooting, let me know what is needed. I'm also having trouble with the web UI ... I thought I had found what to do with Apache, but it's having problems and I do not know what to do so it works. The UI is not super important right now, I'd like to get the lists working first. I first tried to get help on the IRC channel, but that appears to be a dead end. I did give it several hours. Thanks, Shawn

Hello, I'm in the process of migrating some of the lists from mailman2 to mailman3. I'm getting the below error message when I migrate a particular list. *2%Failed adding message <mailman.2.1593699619.32248>: 'ascii' codec can't encode character '\ufffd' in position 252: ordinal not in range(128).* I ran the check_hk_import script before migrating and it was not giving any error. Trying to get mailman3 in docker working with external Mysql database

Our database group has created the database with (charset=utf8mb4&use_unicode=1) and a user For my docker-compose.yaml I will only have two container sections mailman-core mailman-web which should have these database variables set under each: -DATABASE_URL=mysql+pymysql://[database_user]:[database_password]@[database.server.ip]:[databseport]/[database_name] - DATABASE_TYPE=mysql - DATABASE_CLASS=mailman.database.mysql.MySQLDatabase Are these all correct? in looking at documentation should it be: DATABASE_URL=mysql+pymysql://[database_user]:[database_password]@[database.server.ip]:[databseport]/[database_name]?charset=utf8mb4&use_unicode=1 Or/and should I also use? DATABASE_URL=mysql+pymysql://.... or DATABASE_URL=mysql://... or DATABASE_URL=pymysql://.... Do I have to install pymysql? or is it installed in the dock images? Do I have to run any other commands on the database first? I assume mailman does everything it needs for the database at first launch?

Activation of HyperKitty archive on Debian

Is there a straighforward instruction how to make it work on Debian Bullseye? All instructions I find seem to use the git method, and also there are warnings to mix the methods. Installing mailman3 with Debian methods was straightforward, and worked out of the box. Though it purged my mailman2 installation without warning, that was a hard blow. Had to reinstall all my lists in a night session. Also lost the old archives and can't get the new get running.

Broken web interface Ubuntu 20.04

Hello, Whilst I wasn't looking something has broken the web interface to mailman on our list server. On the list index page I get the Postorius header, but no list index, instead a Page not found error. Curiously the Postorius header is also broken, the links point to https://host/mailman/(postorius/lists|hyperkitty) not https://host/mailman3/(postorius/lists|hyperkitty) like it should I've poked around and I can't find any useful errors and I don't know exactly when this happened, but I think it was this week. Mailman itself is running happily underneath. Any suggestions as to what might have gone wrong? Simon P.S. Congratulations on the new release for Mailman 3 Core! I'm not a daily pip/python user, so I'm probably behind on the safe and proper way to update my installation (which is working pretty well). In my virtual environment, I ran `pip list -o` and got a significant list. I noticed that all of the mailman packages seemed to be "Type sdist" and the framework packages "Type wheel". (Dunno what "Type" means in this context.) Hello Everyone, I am pleased to announce that Mailman Core 3.3.5b1 is now out. It is a pre-release for 3.3.5, which is slated to come out in 3 weeks from now. I am planning for a 2 week beta period, after which I'll release the first RC and then stable a week after. Right now I am not planning to release a second beta version, but if there are several changes in Core in the next week or so, then I might. This release includes a lot of bug fixes and some new features. It also includes a security enhancement that improves the authentication of REST API by adding resistance to some timing channel attacks. A full list of changes in this version can be found here[1]. Has anyone using Mailman 3 successfully got DKIM *and* ARC working? I don't mind which MTA you are using or which add-ons you are using to provide the support for DKIM and ARC. I'm just trying to see if there is actually anyone that has both pieces working. By working, I mean sending an email to a Mailman 3 list and receiving the email back from Mailman 3 and the receiving MTA confirms that both DKIM and ARC headers are valid. If you have got it working, please can you share which MTA you are using and the software you are using for DKIM and ARC. Thank you. Regards Philip

Language confusion in held mail notifications

I just upgraded from Mailman 3.2.0 (La Villa Strangiato) to Mailman 3.3.4 (Tom Sawyer) - Docker Mailman v0.3.12. As the language is not possible to set, and the default language is English, I set my user profile to Spanish and the list config to German, to figure out where the changes would take affect. Docker-mailman 0.4.0 release

Hey Everyone, I tagged and released 0.4.0 version of container images for Mailman. This release includes several fixes that have been accumulating in the repo for how Mailman is setup in the containers. This release does not include any mailman component version bump from 0.3.12 release. More specifically, the major change is that we no longer require static IP configuration in the container images (like previously) and can handle dynamic addresses that are allocated to the containers by Docker. This should help simplify the setup for folks using Kubernetes or other setup than the provided docker-compose files. The migration steps are documented here[1]. Please checkout the release in Github[2] for more details on the changes made in this release. disable body transcoding

Hi, I have disabled all message modifications and filtering from within the webUI, and created empty header and footer template files. Still, some list messages get their body encoding changed to base64, breaking DKIM. What can I do to prevent this? (I'm a newbie to mailman3, so please give somewhat complete commands. I have read other threads with similar questions, but did not understand some shortened configuration commands.) BR

I have a new mailman3 install setup with Okta as a social application. This is working well for logins and data comes through as expected, but for some reason the username is being set at to a lowercase version of the given_name. The Extra data on the social users in the admin interface looks good, so I don’t think it’s a problem with the attributes coming from Okta. We have tried a number of variations on the below setting, but that all of them other than the default of “username” end up with the username being empty. ACCOUNT_USER_MODEL_USERNAME_FIELD = “email” Any direction would be welcome. Thank you!

Django primer for Mailman admins

Hey Everyone, This weekend I wrote some documentation[1] that I thought would be useful for Mailman admins when dealing with Django, since it is a frequent topic on -users list. The intent was to add only required information for admins to work with Mailman installs and provide enough pointers to right places, wherein more information can be found instead of duplicating them in Mailman's docs since it it often goes stale. Since the most common theme of questions are configuration (settings), management commands and deployment (running), I distributed the whole page in those three sections. If you as a system admin had to spend some time figuring out certain things about Django, it would be good to respond on this thread or just open a MR with additions to the page[1]. Hi all: I need to provide the list moderators a way to change the moderation flag for users from whichever it is (normally "list default processing") to "hold for moderation" and viceversa (to "list default" or to "accept") I understand that it could be done via console script (That's the way I did on mailman2: I made two commands using "withlist", one to hold, moderar.py, and other one to accept, desmoderar.py. I show you below) But I think I'm not the only one that could use as an improvement a way to do this on postorius/web. mm3mod: command line moderation tool

Because we're not running postorius, and the moderate-by-mail change is not available in the older version of mailman3 we're running, I needed a tool to moderate lists from the command line. I found mailman-tools, but wasn't able to get them working with python3, so I started from scratch. Maybe someone else will find it useful https://git.tethera.net/mm3mod.git/about/ It's a work in progress, but I am running the version from that repo in production. Like any program using the REST interface, in principle this has complete administrator access to your mailman site, so you need to to trust both this code and the users you let run it. I do run it in "kiosk mode" via ssh command="/home/listmod/.local/bin/mm3mod" ssh-rsa blahblah in .ssh/authorized_keys. This is more of a keeping-honest-people-honest kind of thing.

Controlling Mailman3 from the Linux commandline

All, Not versed in Python, I found using the Python gateway to Mailman3 commands rather cumbersome for the few and very simple interactions I have with the shell. So I implemented a set of .bash scripts that I use instead. They all have this from, where the last part is the Mailman shell command (in this case the command for adding members in file $1 to the list $2). #!/bin/bash exec /opt/mailman/mm/venv/bin/mailman -C "/opt/mailman/mm/mailman.cfg" members --addmembers $1 $2 To invoke it: . addMembers.bash <FILE_OF_EMAIL> <listname> I have other scripts for commands such as: List all lists List all members on all lists (with a sort -u) Send an email with a given list's members to a given address Delete members from a list Delete members from all lists Help Count members on a list Note the one that sends the member list to a given email address. Hello, I understand that the mailman shell is basically interactive. I need to run some actions as adding and deleting users in a Linux shell script, or even from another python program. Does anyone have a working DKIM/ARC configuration?

I've configured a Mailman 3 server with Postfix and added OpenDKIM to the latter to provide the DKIM headers, and configured Mailman to provide the ARC headers. However, in sending test messages to a mailbox hosted by Microsoft, I'm seeing a header like this: ARC-Authentication-Results: i=2; mx.microsoft.com 1; spf=pass (sender ip is 1.2.3.4) smtp.rcpttodomain=destination.org smtp.mailfrom=mmserver.org; dmarc=bestguesspass action=none header.from=mmserver.org; dkim=test (signature was verified) header.d=mmserver.org; dkim=fail (signature did not verify) header.d=sender.org; arc=fail (47) (I've changed the domains and IP address) Manually sending an email from the server to the same external email address does give me an email with a valid DKIM header: Authentication-Results: spf=pass (sender IP is 1.2.3.4) smtp.mailfrom=mmserver.org; destination.org; dkim=test (signature was verified) header.d=mmserver.org;destination.org; dmarc=bestguesspass action=none header.from=mmserver.org;compauth=pass reason=109 So I'm unclear as to where the problem may lie ... Mailman Web has not been updated for wo weeks. Does that mean I can download that Postorius and it will work with the latest mailman core updated in the past day? External Mail-Server?

New messages not being archived

I have 2 active lists that are properly mailing out and working, plus an admin testing list that is as well. The list info pane correctly shows the mail volume and the imported archives from the previous 2.1 installation are present for both active lists. None of the 3 lists are generating new entries in the archive, all 3 are set up with default settings except 1 active and admin are set to private. I know that hyperkitty is showing some new content as admin was created in postorius and the list is present in hyperkitty and working in mailman. None of the logs show anything of note, mailmanweb.log has no new entries since it caused a serious issue when I changed the domain, uwsgi-error is the same and uwsgi.log has proper access logs. When trying to add a new thread via the hyperkitty interface I can see the email go through the maillog, I get the email with the entered content and everything else works, it just doesn't add a new thread to the archive. The installation is set up with the default settings from the virtualenv installation guide. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Mailman container images 0.3.12 is now out

Hey Everyone, I have just tagged release 0.3.12 on Github for container images for Mailman 3[1]. This release includes the fix for CVE-2021-40347 that was announced earlier today. For the folks using 0.3 or 0.3.11 release tags, it is highly recommended that you upgrade to this release. This release also bumps the version of Mailman Core to 3.3.4, Mailmanclient to 3.3.3 and Django-mailman3 to 1.3.7. Note that is since the main and v0.3.12 branches are different in many ways, the default documentation[2] and the docker-compose.yaml files in the main branch aren't accurate if you are using the stable release. Please refer to the README[3] at v0.3.12 tag in the Github repo for more accurate docker-compose.yaml and documentation. The project has grown large enough that we need to start versioning the documentation, if someone has experience with versioning docs using Github pages and mkdocs, then I very much need some help here! For those of you who are using the rolling release, it is recommended that you **don't** upgrade to this stable release. The fixes have been pulled into the rolling tags too, so just make sure that you upgrade to the latest published version of rolling release, which as of this writing should be based off on fda837f8d15540e190992c30f7971f50fca54dac commit[4]. This might not be the latest by the time you upgrade if I add a new commit, so look for versions published after 4:00 PM PST 9/5/2021. I am also working on cutting a new release, 0.4.0, which is backwards incompatible with the setup required to talk to web server and MTA (hence the minor version bump!). That should bring the rolling releases and stable releases closer to each other and add improvements around not needing static IPs in the docker network anymore, plus several bug fixes. If someone wants to test the upgrade to 0.4.0 from 0.3 release and is willing to try out the instructions at [5], it would give me some confidence in cutting out the release sooner. The only thing stopping the release of 0.4.0 images is that I haven't verified if the upgrade from 0.3 is documented enough or not. For all the registries listed in README[6], I am still trying to push to Quay (maybe I need to just skip pushing to Quay :-). So, just use the other two to pull the images, Github (ghcr.io) has more generous pull download policy for un-authenticated users though. New vulnerability in Hyperkitty master branch

Hey Everyone, A new vulnerability was reported against Hyperkitty’s git master branch branch which can expose the archives of a private Mailing List through the new Feeds API that was added to Hyperkitty recently to someone who isn't a member or logged-in. Thanks to Ngo Wei Lin for reporting this vulnerability. This bug does not affect any stable released version of Hyperkitty and only affects installations from source (1.3.5b1 version). To differentiate from the vulnerable version, I have bumped the version in master branch to 1.3.5b2, so if you have 1.3.5b1 installed, you should upgrade! The fix for this bug has been committed to master branch[1][2] less than an hour ago as of this writing. If you are using git branches to install Hyperkitty, you can upgrade using the following command: $ pip install --upgrade git+https://gitlab.com/mailman/hyperkitty@master I have also triggered a build for Mailman container images[3] with this changes, so if you are using the rolling container images (which are the only affected ones), then you should upgrade to the latest one when the build[1] finishes (approximately in next 30mins). Do note that this version of rolling release of mailman-web image also includes the fix for the vulnerability announced against Postoruis earlier today. CVE-2021-40347: New security release for Postorius

Everyone, A security vulnerability was reported against Postorius recently which allows any logged-in user to unsubscribe any other member on any other list on same Mailman installation using a specially crafted POST request due to a missing ownership check. This has been assigned CVE-2021-40347. This affects all past versions of Postorius including 1.0.0. Thanks to Kunal Mehta for the security report and a quick patch to fix the vulnerability. I am also attaching a minimal patch that fixes it along with this email, without tests and NEWS so that it applies to older versions of Postorius easily (I have tested the included patch with 1.3.3, 1.3.2 git tags). Upgrading to 1.3.5 release is highly recommended and it mostly includes the fix for this vulnerability (and a small compatibility fix for django-mailman3 1.3.6) so it shouldn’t introduce any other bugs. You can upgrade to this release by running: $ pip install postorius==1.3.5 A full change log is available here[1] as usual and can be downloaded from PyPI[2]. How to increase maximum size of the message in mailman

Hi Team, I am currently running Mailman 3 with version 3.3.1 and in-built postfix version 2.10.1-6 on RHEL 7.5 with PostgreSQL 11.7 version with default values. I am almost running 2200 lists with 128 GB RAM and 24 Cores on a single VM and on which all the mailman 3 components are running. I have been running this setup in production for the past 2 years and 6 months. I have recently encountered a scenario where a user sent mail with a PPT attachment to one of the lists on the said mailman server. The mail is received by postfix on the mailman server and is handed over to mailman at *0.0.0.0:8024 <http://0.0.0.0:8024>.* But the /var/log/maillog says the below error during the above hand shake. *status=bounced (host 0.0.0.0[0.0.0.0] said: 552 Error: Too much mail data* I have browsed google for understanding and fixing the issue. During which I encountered the information given by Mr. Mark Sapio at https://lists.mailman3.org/archives/list/mailman-users@mailman3.org/thread/…. But I could not fix the issue as it is mentioned the default size limit is 33554432. I request someone to suggest where I can customize the value 33554432 and put a higher value or can be configured without any limit. I have configured message_size_limit as 100MB at postfix level. I would like to configure, in fact, the same at mailman level too. But I don't understand where to edit. I tried editing the variable DATA_SIZE_DEFAULT value in /var/lib/mailman/mailman/.tox/py36-nocov/lib/python3.6/site-packages/aiosmtpd/smtp.py file but unfortunately no luck. So, could someone please help us in this regard ? Question about message bounce stats

When I used Mailgun some time back, it had a feature of, for any specific outgoing mailing, being able to show you stats and other details of which mails were received ok, which bounced, and which were undeliverable, which I found helpful to check every so often. Their system also kept track of long-term trends, eg for addresses that frequently failed. Does Mailman3 keep such stats, and if so is there any way to get access to them, even if only API? I would think it useful to do so (and yes, for individual outgoing messages at least for a period). auto-away notices as bounces

Hi, I had a user complaint that his subscription was disabled. Looking into details, his mail provider sent out lots of auto aways notices marked with Auto-Submitted: auto-replied (vacation) Should we not exclude these as being counted as bounce? (List settings are "Individual" for "Personalize" and yes for both "Include RFC2369 headers" and "Include the list post header". Regards, Andi

Hi together, does anyone have a sensible nagios monitoring for mailman3? (I had the issue that after a data base restart mailman3 was somehow disturbed but the basic web interface was still available, just the detailed pages like .../lists/$listid/ showed the error) Andi
