I am trying to change email "To" field to user's email instead of mailing list's email. e.g. "To: <user(a)gmail.com>" instead of "To: <mailman-users(a)mailman3.org>" I looked around old mailman configs they mentioned about adding OWNERS_CAN_ENABLE_PERSONALIZATION option in mm_cfg.py is this feature still available in mailman3 ? Can I do it via Postorius or REST API? Thanks.

[MM3-users] Handling of (un)subscribe mails for already (un)subscribed users

Hi, I noticed that a mail to -subscribe for an already subscribed user doesn't get any response (about line 225 in mailman/src/mailman/app/subscriptions.py). Same but different for unsubscribe for users not on the list. I'd need these kind of mails however in hope that users complain less. Would that be generally interessting, and if so, any special requirements for submitting patches, or should I just do that locally? Regards, Andi

[MM3-users] Delete Django profiles not signed up to a list

Hi, I have noticed recently I have around 2000 bogus sign-ups that have created accounts in Django. Looking through the logs these have come from the Postorius sign-up pages. I checked and email confirmation is required before the accounts are created and the email addresses that have been used do seem like they could respond to these requests. I don't want to add captchas to the form right now but is there any way to clean out these users from the database perhaps periodically based on whether the accounts are subscribed to any list? Hi, I have created a footer via the webUI "Templates" option, but it is not included in the mails distributed by the mailinglist. From information given in other threads, I checked the DB, and the entry for this footer is created in the template table. The uri for the footer is http://localhost:8000/postorius/api/templates/list/..., but there is no process listening on port 8000. Do I need to install/configure something additionally to get a process listening on port 8000? Thanks in advance,Eric

Here's another question that I have. A regular message just came into my email from one of the lists I'm a member of and it had a 3 line footer. The first two lines are fine, they just include the list's email address and an address to send unsubscribe requests to. The third line is this: %(web_page_url)slistinfo%(cgiext)s/%(_internal_name)s It looks to me like it should be a link to the group's list info page. Is this a bug or is there something I can do to fix it? It looks like it might be missing a forward slash after the first "s".

I typo'd some full names in a mailing list. I want to correct them ... I can't see a way to do that in the Member Options, so I thought I'd try "remove" and re-add, either from the command line or the UI. I'll now try and repeat the process and narrow down my steps to document exactly how to do this and am then happy to share documentation on it for others (and for review in case the steps are different on other systems). I started checking all my settings and found the problem in the Django settings.py file. POSTORIUS_TEMPLATE_BASE_URL = 'https://mailman3.caltech.edu' My footer template works now! Thanks again for all your help. I think we're getting close to putting this into production. Just going to have some of our users do some QA and testing with real lists migrated from Mailman2.

[MM3-users] OS upgrade - anything to take care of?

Dear MM3 users, today I upgraded one of two servers from Ubuntu 18.04 to 20.04 and - besides some minor config updates - postfix & dovecot worked well afterwards. So I am very optimistic that the upgrade of the second server from 18.04 to 20.04 will also work fine. But the second server is running MM3 (installed in venv) and I saw that on upgrade Python 3.8 is installed. Is there anything I have to take care of? Anything to do / change in venv? Before it was quiet easy and supposedly still is, but we can't figure out what to do with the CSRF-token-problem. Is there anywhere a documentation on this? We can't find one. Hello. I'm new with v3 of mailman. Installed via aptitude on deb10. After I logged in as admin, I created my actual domain, as "example.com" was there by default. I then deleted example.com, and everything broke. The only site I had was still using example.com. How do I either a) restore example.com in config or CLI (as web UI is completely broken now), or b) move my one and only "Site 1" to the domain I created? Thanks.

Does mailman3 support that directly, or would I have to setup a local MTA which somehow fetches incoming mails from the external inbox and uses the external Mail-Server for delivery? Hi, I have disabled all message modifications and filtering from within the webUI, and created empty header and footer template files. Still, some list messages get their body encoding changed to base64, breaking DKIM. What can I do to prevent this? (I'm a newbie to mailman3, so please give somewhat complete commands. The cause is a security update to apache2, which was released on the 28th. It's got regression problems. There's been another update today, which doesn't fix it. Thanks, we have no time frame in-mind. The group that wants to do this is technically a sub group in my division, so the higher ups may decide to give them that access or not. At this point I will send up my findings and then the managers can discuss how/if they want to implement a solution. I think ultimately they would just need to add and remove users (once a list is lists for them). So I also assume they could script that with email commands?

This is probably s stupid question but I have been searching for an answer. How do you set a different rest api password? The instructions say : The credentials are set in the [webservice] section of the configuration using the admin_user and admin_pass properties. But what is that referring to? I am running docker, so is this in the docker.yaml file (I tried it there it did not work) or in the Django config file or someplace else?

Thanks, That set me on the path, But having issue with DOCKER For Docker I know you do not edit this file /etc/mailman.cfg. I believe It is generated from "/opt/mailman/core/mailman-extra.cfg" so in the "/opt/mailman/core/mailman-extra.cfg" add a section to set the restapi password and restarted my containers. I added in /opt/mailman/core/mailman-extra.cfg [webservice] admin_pass: restunicorn But now in /etc/mailman.cfg I have two [webservice] sections and things are broke [webservice] hostname: ******** port: 8001 admin_user: restadmin admin_pass: restpass configuration: /etc/gunicorn.cfg . . [webservice] admin_pass: restunicorn Any thought on how to change it?

Another docker upgrade question... according to the upgrade docs https://docs.mailman3.org/en/latest/upgrade-3.2.html#post-upgrade you are supposed to stop the web service and run a series of commands (compress/collectstatic/etc). How do you stop the service under Docker? If I stop the container, then I cannot access the manage.py command. Thanks, Seth

Recently I upgraded Mailman to GNU Mailman 3.3.4 (Tom Sawyer) (Postorius: 1.3.5 and HyperKitty: 1.3.4) which is now processing bounces. When a member have been disabled due to bounces, how is the member re-enabled? I would guess it would be under the "Users -> Members -> Member options -> Delivery status", but theses are both (Enabled and disabled) unchecked, not indicating whether or not the member is either or. Your instincts were correct. I adjusted the Gunicorn timeouts for Postorius/ Django instead and that has alleviated the problem. We use supervisord on our containers so I changed the gunicorn command there. command = gunicorn --timeout 0 --graceful-timeout 300 --config /var/www/mailman-www/gunicorn_config.py wsgi I'm also looking to speed up the processing so I'm wondering if adding more Gunicorn "workers" for Postorius would help with that. [MM3-users] Speed/progress of update_index_one_list?

Yesterday, I ran "mailman-web update_index_one_list" against a mailing list. The command output "Indexing 328077 emails" and that is the last I've heard from it. The process is still running but, looking in ~mailman/web/logs, I can't see anything happening related to that list. Is there any way to determine how far this process has got, or what it is actually doing? (Without stopping it) For future indexing, what makes the most difference to the speed? Does it benefit from having multiple cores if I resize the AWS instance to a larger processor? What is the bottleneck for this process? Thank you. Regards Philip

As far as I know there are no naming conflicts in the default installations, Mailman 2 installs into directory trees under directories named "mailman", while Mailman 3 installs under "mailman3".

Mailman3 people -- I created a new list, and used postorius to create a template for " list:user:notice:welcome". I then used the mass subscription feature to add myself to the list, having checked "pre-confirmed", "pre-approved", and "pre-verified". I received a welcome message that appears to be the default welcome message. It certainly wasn't what I put into my template. Any suggestions on how I get mailman to use my template? [MM3-users] User suspended after too much spam

I have set up spamassassin as spamfilter, and it works reasonable so far. Some spam passes the filter and I try to use it for training. However, one of my users has a very restrictive spam filter and rejects all spam. This causes mailman to suspend that user. I have to enable the user each time. How can I change that behaviour? I do not want my users to be suspended. Cheers

Hello, We have a constant issue with confirmation emails for subscribers getting lost and then the subscriber contacting us because their posts to the list never show up. [MM3-users] anyway to change/set options for a bunch of users?

We just migrated to mailman 3 and one of my admins asked is there a way to change their digest options, when adding a bunch of users via mas subscription? I was looking for an option to say all new users are set to digest, but I can't find it. Also, is there a way to select multiple users in list and change their digest options? I believe could do this in mailman2 but I am trying to figure out if this is possible for the GUI in mailman3?

Thanks, What cron do you run it out of, root? I assume it does not matter as long as the cron user has docker permissions, so the corn user does not matter cause the -u will run the command as the mailman user in the container.

Thanks, I just did a test and send a message to a list I was not a member of, and the owner of the list got the message about needing to approve it. and the sender go the message that it had to be approved. So it looks like that piece does work in the docker environment? or does "Mailman notify" do anything else?

Thanks, so on my test system I never got a notification for a held message, and on production, I only go it once, So it looks like for docker you should do a cron to run at least these commands from the docker host 00 6 * * * /usr/bin/docker exec -u mailman mailman-core mailman digests -p 00 5 * * * /usr/bin/docker exec -u mailman mailman-core mailman notify

Which database table contains these pending subscriptions? I checked the "members" and "address" tables but no luck yet. I'm trying to help someone clear a few hundred of these. I can try writing a Python script to use the "hex_token" values in the Python dict. But maybe doing something via MySQL would be easier.

I solved my own problem and it was a stale master lock. I deleted all files in the locks directory that begin with master.lck as follows: "rm /var/lib/mailman3/locks/master.lck*" See: https://lists.mailman3.org/archives/list/mailman-users@mailman3.org/thread/… So, it didn't have anything to do with the debian package upgrade but simply was a left over master lock that had not been deleted. Dear All, I have a similar issue. Also on Debian 11. Also installed as Debian PKG. It's version GNU Mailman 3.3.3 (Tom Sawyer) I am using sqlite3. When I do the SQL-query I get an URI which is in multiple reasons wrong http://localhost/mailman3/postorius/api/templates/list/....../list:member:r… OK - the hostname could be changed but the path is not existing at all. There is no file "list:member:regular:footer" on the complete filesystem. Kind regards Hans

Hello, i have successfully installed mailman3 with postgres using the venv method - testing the install of mailman-full package i have some questions - to configure the db in venv i would use mailman-web migrate - this works fine - but mailman-full install does not seem to include mailman-web or mailman3-web - the mailman info cmd works fine - do i need to also install mailman-web? i had thought the mailman-full included all components thanks

Hi, I’ve added links to some templates to give owners and moderators shortcuts to the postorius UI for moderation tasks, e.g., I’ve added https://lists.xxx.de/postorius/lists/$list_id/held_messages <https://lists.xxx.de/postorius/lists/$list_id/held_messages> Unfortunately those lines seem to exceed a certain limit and get folded, so that they appear as, e.g. https://lists.xxx.de/postorius/lists/$list_id/held_ <https://lists.xxx.de/postorius/lists/$list_id/held_> messages (or similar) and are not directly useful. Do you have any suggestion for this situation?

Hi, I installed Mailman3 successfully and would like to change the default smtp settings to an authenticated connection (smtp_user, smtp_pass). But my Postfix configuration restricts sending messages via the smtpd_sender_login_maps directive (which points to a hashed file I created years ago) and correctly refuses connections for messages with the test mailing list's From header. I obviously do not want to add an entry to the map file for each mailing list created by someone on the server. Is there a way to programmatically create a sender login map with Mailman? Thanks, Jan

The archives display on a browser six, to say the least. I am reading https://wiki.list.org/DOC/Mailman%203%20installation%20experience regarding templates and I am confused about whether to treat the path /opt/mailman/mm/var/templates/*site*/en/ literally or even if that information is still relevant. [MM3-users] SMTPNotSupportedError when requesting new password

I get this error when a user tries to use the "forgot password" function in hyperkitty. Obviously the exception is thrown when the send_mail function is called in /opt/mailman/venv/lib/python3.9/site-packages/allauth/account/adapter.py In settings.py I have: EMAIL_BACKEND = 'django.core.mail.backends.smtp.EmailBackend' EMAIL_HOST = 'localhost' EMAIL_PORT = 25 EMAIL_HOST_USER = 'valid email' EMAIL_HOST_PASSWORD = 'valid password' What can I do to debug further?

Greetings, I finally completed installation of Mailman 3 following the instructions here: https://docs.mailman3.org/en/latest/install/virtualenv.html#initial-configu… I got a lot of support from this mailing-list too and I am mighty grateful for that. My new MM3 instance does not seem to be archiving. List subscribers are currently sending and receiving mails on their subscribed lists. However, none of the correspondence is showing up at https://mailing-list-site.tld/archives/. That page shows a listing of the active mailing-lists with '0 participants' and '0 discussions'. Whereas, those lists contain mails. How do I troubleshoot this?

[MM3-users] MM3 to MM3 migration

I’m looking to migrate several mailing lists from one server running MM3/Django/Hyperkitty to another. Same operating system and python environment and venvs for both. Although the canonical hostnames for the two servers will differ, I can use the same hostnames for lists once I’ve got everything set up. Is this really as simple as building the new server, creating the same lists on the new server, and rsync’ing the archives from the old server? If not, how to do the migration? I checked the archives and saw many threads on MM2 -> MM3, but did not see anything on MM3 migration. Thanks in advance. dn

I'm trying to get mailman3 up on ubuntu using the debian package. I did the "apt install mailman3-full" and it does seem to have installed as both the mailman3 & mailman3-web processes are running. I can use "mailman create" in the command-line and "mailman lists" displays the lists I created. What I am having issues with is I don't see any entries in/etc/aliases, and I don't know how to access the web interface (as either admin or user). Can someone point me to what I need to do to finish it? Thanks, Marisa

Hi fellow Hyperkitties, I migrated from Mailman 2 to 3 and imported my 1st list via `manage.py hyperkitty_import` to Hyperkitty 1.3.4 (the Debian package), but that might not even be relevant to my problem: All "<" and ">" in old and new messages are shown as "<" and ">" in message views _however_ they are shown correctly in overview abstracts e.g. at //server/mm3/hyperkitty/list/testlist@server/latest Is this a bug in Hyperkitty? Postorius is running. I just removed all mailing lists, and created new empty ones. These now show in the Apache2 website, via the link to Postorius I assume. Then I imported members from the old mailing list "Templist" into the new one. Now the "templist" is no longer visible on the website! It is here: https://sartrack.nz/mailman3/ Note that the existing list "Templist" is missing. Now I need to login as 'superuser' or whatever it is called, so I can manage all the lists. Where do I set up my login and password for access via the web browser?

Running Mailman 3.3.8 with docker. ----- Since we migrate some lists from mailman2 to 3, there are a lot of new users/subscribers and an admin made the mistake to not checkbox the 3. option that the users don't need to verify their address. Now we have a long list of pending confirmations in different lists. Is there an easy way in the shell to mass remove these pending mailaddresses so that we don't have to do that one by one? Well, there are no archives created after I change them settings but it is not what I'm looking for. If I do this all the lists will stop archiving. I was hoping that there was something already implemented or there is a config that I can change that allows newly created lists to be configured not to archive messages by default, or publicly archive by default....

When I view a list via Postorius the "Held Messages" menu item has an inverse-red-"2" next to it, as if there are two held messages. There are, in fact, no messages in "/opt/mailman/mm/var/queue/*" (assuming the held messages should be in "pipeline" subdirectory). When I click on "Held Messages" I get "Something went wrong" followed by "HTTP Error 500: {"title": "500 Internal Server Error"}". How do I fix this?

I'm brand new to this, so take this with a grain of sale, but, I had a similar problem a few days ago, however, mine was "flufl.i18n>=3.2". Perhaps the same thing is happening with flufl.lock (but that didn't bite me). I solved my problem by following this: <https://gitlab.com/mailman/mailman/-/issues/1085> and, ultimately modifying "$VENV_ROOT/lib/$PYVERSION/site-packages/mailman-3.3.8.egg-info/requires.txt" per that thread (see <https://gitlab.com/mailman/mailman/-/issues/1085#note_1442207929> by Thomas Ward section called "The WORKAROUND"). Maybe you need to do the same thing, but for flufl.lock.

How can I configure Mailman3 so that Mails from the list will not be blocked by gmx.net I tried to send with the same user (mailman.cf) at my mail server, which will not be blocked by gmx. unfortunately, I get no bounce back message. Please forgive a dumb question from a non-programmer: How to apply the !1130.diff patch to a venv installation? https://gitlab.com/mailman/mailman/-/merge_requests/1130 I am looking to upgrade Debian 11 to 12. The latter uses python3.11, which no longer has a dependency on importlib_resources. As a result, MM3 won't start unless all references to importlib_resources instead call importlib.resources, now part of stdlib. I tried patching all importlib.resource references by hand, and MM3 starts – but that can't be the "right" way to do this.
