Which database table contains these pending subscriptions? I checked the "members" and "address" tables but no luck yet. I'm trying to help someone clear a few hundred of these. I can try writing a Python script to use the "hex_token" values in the Python dict. But maybe doing something via MySQL would be easier.

I solved my own problem and it was a stale master lock. I deleted all files in the locks directory that begin with master.lck as follows: "rm /var/lib/mailman3/locks/master.lck*" See: https://lists.mailman3.org/archives/list/mailman-users@mailman3.org/thread/… So, it didn't have anything to do with the debian package upgrade but simply was a left over master lock that had not been deleted. If so, what would be the best way to do that? Dear All, I have a similar issue. Also on Debian 11. Also installed as Debian PKG. It's version GNU Mailman 3.3.3 (Tom Sawyer) I am using sqlite3. When I do the SQL-query I get an URI which is in multiple reasons wrong http://localhost/mailman3/postorius/api/templates/list/....../list:member:r… OK - the hostname could be changed but the path is not existing at all. There is no file "list:member:regular:footer" on the complete filesystem. Kind regards Hans

Hello, i have successfully installed mailman3 with postgres using the venv method - testing the install of mailman-full package i have some questions - to configure the db in venv i would use mailman-web migrate - this works fine - but mailman-full install does not seem to include mailman-web or mailman3-web - the mailman info cmd works fine - do i need to also install mailman-web? i had thought the mailman-full included all components thanks

Hi, I’ve added links to some templates to give owners and moderators shortcuts to the postorius UI for moderation tasks, e.g., I’ve added https://lists.xxx.de/postorius/lists/$list_id/held_messages <https://lists.xxx.de/postorius/lists/$list_id/held_messages> Unfortunately those lines seem to exceed a certain limit and get folded, so that they appear as, e.g. https://lists.xxx.de/postorius/lists/$list_id/held_ <https://lists.xxx.de/postorius/lists/$list_id/held_> messages (or similar) and are not directly useful. Do you have any suggestion for this situation?

[MM3-users] MTA authentication and smtpd_sender_login_maps

Hi, I installed Mailman3 successfully and would like to change the default smtp settings to an authenticated connection (smtp_user, smtp_pass). But my Postfix configuration restricts sending messages via the smtpd_sender_login_maps directive (which points to a hashed file I created years ago) and correctly refuses connections for messages with the test mailing list's From header. I obviously do not want to add an entry to the map file for each mailing list created by someone on the server. Is there a way to programmatically create a sender login map with Mailman? Thanks, Jan

[MM3-users] SMTPNotSupportedError when requesting new password

I get this error when a user tries to use the "forgot password" function in hyperkitty. Obviously the exception is thrown when the send_mail function is called in /opt/mailman/venv/lib/python3.9/site-packages/allauth/account/adapter.py In settings.py I have: EMAIL_BACKEND = 'django.core.mail.backends.smtp.EmailBackend' EMAIL_HOST = 'localhost' EMAIL_PORT = 25 EMAIL_HOST_USER = 'valid email' EMAIL_HOST_PASSWORD = 'valid password' What can I do to debug further?

Greetings, I finally completed installation of Mailman 3 following the instructions here: https://docs.mailman3.org/en/latest/install/virtualenv.html#initial-configu… I got a lot of support from this mailing-list too and I am mighty grateful for that. My new MM3 instance does not seem to be archiving. List subscribers are currently sending and receiving mails on their subscribed lists. However, none of the correspondence is showing up at https://mailing-list-site.tld/archives/. That page shows a listing of the active mailing-lists with '0 participants' and '0 discussions'. Whereas, those lists contain mails. How do I troubleshoot this?

[MM3-users] MM3 to MM3 migration

I’m looking to migrate several mailing lists from one server running MM3/Django/Hyperkitty to another. Same operating system and python environment and venvs for both. Although the canonical hostnames for the two servers will differ, I can use the same hostnames for lists once I’ve got everything set up. Is this really as simple as building the new server, creating the same lists on the new server, and rsync’ing the archives from the old server? If not, how to do the migration? I checked the archives and saw many threads on MM2 -> MM3, but did not see anything on MM3 migration. Thanks in advance. dn

[MM3-users] Need help setting up mailman3 on ubuntu 20.04...

I'm trying to get mailman3 up on ubuntu using the debian package. I did the "apt install mailman3-full" and it does seem to have installed as both the mailman3 & mailman3-web processes are running. I can use "mailman create" in the command-line and "mailman lists" displays the lists I created. What I am having issues with is I don't see any entries in/etc/aliases, and I don't know how to access the web interface (as either admin or user). Can someone point me to what I need to do to finish it? Thanks, Marisa

Hi fellow Hyperkitties, I migrated from Mailman 2 to 3 and imported my 1st list via `manage.py hyperkitty_import` to Hyperkitty 1.3.4 (the Debian package), but that might not even be relevant to my problem: All "<" and ">" in old and new messages are shown as "<" and ">" in message views _however_ they are shown correctly in overview abstracts e.g. at //server/mm3/hyperkitty/list/testlist@server/latest Is this a bug in Hyperkitty? Postorius is running. I just removed all mailing lists, and created new empty ones. These now show in the Apache2 website, via the link to Postorius I assume. Then I imported members from the old mailing list "Templist" into the new one. Now the "templist" is no longer visible on the website! It is here: https://sartrack.nz/mailman3/ Note that the existing list "Templist" is missing. Now I need to login as 'superuser' or whatever it is called, so I can manage all the lists. Where do I set up my login and password for access via the web browser?

Running Mailman 3.3.8 with docker. ----- Since we migrate some lists from mailman2 to 3, there are a lot of new users/subscribers and an admin made the mistake to not checkbox the 3. option that the users don't need to verify their address. Now we have a long list of pending confirmations in different lists. Is there an easy way in the shell to mass remove these pending mailaddresses so that we don't have to do that one by one? When I view a list via Postorius the "Held Messages" menu item has an inverse-red-"2" next to it, as if there are two held messages. There are, in fact, no messages in "/opt/mailman/mm/var/queue/*" (assuming the held messages should be in "pipeline" subdirectory). When I click on "Held Messages" I get "Something went wrong" followed by "HTTP Error 500: {"title": "500 Internal Server Error"}". How do I fix this?

I'm brand new to this, so take this with a grain of sale, but, I had a similar problem a few days ago, however, mine was "flufl.i18n>=3.2". Perhaps the same thing is happening with flufl.lock (but that didn't bite me). I solved my problem by following this: <https://gitlab.com/mailman/mailman/-/issues/1085> and, ultimately modifying "$VENV_ROOT/lib/$PYVERSION/site-packages/mailman-3.3.8.egg-info/requires.txt" per that thread (see <https://gitlab.com/mailman/mailman/-/issues/1085#note_1442207929> by Thomas Ward section called "The WORKAROUND"). Maybe you need to do the same thing, but for flufl.lock.

The latter uses python3.11, which no longer has a dependency on importlib_resources. As a result, MM3 won't start unless all references to importlib_resources instead call importlib.resources, now part of stdlib. I tried patching all importlib.resource references by hand, and MM3 starts – but that can't be the "right" way to do this. Also, the diff references a src directory that doesn't exist under /opt/mailman. Thanks in advance for patching clues. dn

Does Mailman have anyway to just allow users to subscribe themselves to a list from certain domains... ie any user from test.com or test2.com I do not believe this exists, but have a list manger who is asking. Thanks, so with that info I was able to dig around and confirm it is the "Subject prefix" that is being displayed. Not sure why some clients display it and others do not, but that will be for the end user to talk to their email team about cause it is not a mailman issue.

I use mailman3 since a while, for some of my lists I have been using - list:member:digest:footer.txt - list:member:regular:footer.txt When I go to "Vorlagen" (LC: DE) (templates) in the web interface, I do _not_ see these two templates! When I got o my newest mailing list and when I setup templates via the Webinterfaces, these are shown there, but are neither working nor seen as files. What's wrong here? Is that a problem of the localisation language (DE)? Bug, feature or misunderstanding of myself?

I've migrated a list from mm 21 to mm 3 sucessfully. The mm 21 runs on domains managed by Postfix as virtual alias domains. That way it was possible to alias a shorter name for a list to the list name. To run mm 3 through Postfix, I use local_recipient_maps and transport_maps. What I want to achieve, is alias medlem(a)list.saf-org.no to saf-medlem(a)list.saf-org.no I tried to put medlem(a)list.saf-org.no: saf-medlem(a)list.saf-org.no and get the following error when running newaliases: postalias: warning: /etc/aliases, line 231: name must be local Is it possible to do this aliasing in a simple way? I've got exactly the same set-up as Kilian and changed the "Server error" page (with associated debug email) to a "Page not found" page. Thank you for this Matt. One thing that I noted was that the change didn't take immediately. In hindsight I think that I needed to restart the "uwsgi" service, but I was doing some server updates anyway so rebooted the whole server.

Hi Odhiambo, My mailman3 logs are empty (/var/log/mailman3/mailman.log). Nothing has been written to the log files since the OS upgrade. I do see the following in /var/log/syslog for each time that I restart the service with "systemctl start mailman3": >2023-11-06T14:00:19.549985-05:00 slc systemd[1]: Starting mailman3.service - LSB: Mailman3 server... But I cannot find any log entries that might indicate why the service is exiting. Can you be more specific about how to create a new venv and move the "var" directory, etc. Thanks, Gordon

Hi, is there some way to find an ID to follow an email through mailman? In the exim logfile there is only something like C="250 Ok" (whereas in mails sent to another exim there is something like C="250 OK id=…"). (What I sometimes need to do is to follow an mail whether it is sent through mailman and to where.) Or should I raise an issue as whishlist request? Regards, Andi

I imported an archive from a list created in September 2013 with the following command: mailman-web hyperkitty_import -l annonsering(a)hodr.no --since 2013-09-01 <mbox file> No errors reported. I then did mailman-web update_index_one_list annonsering(a)hodr.no No, when I go to https://hodr.no/archives/list/annonsering@hodr.no/, I cannot choose mails earlier than January 2023. Hello, everyone. I just completed the initial installation by following the instructions: https://docs.list.org/en/latest/install/virtualenv.html#virtualenv-install I went with the apache/uswgi configuration. The site is up and running, but if I click Postorius, it gets redirected to https://mysite.com/postorius/lists and I get not found error message. The same goes for Lists and Archives. What did I do wrong? I've found some discussions online, but they seem to be related to a different installation, thus my confusion. Thank you!

Hello list! I saw a few posts regarding the "Uncaught runner exception: module 'time' has no attribute 'clock'" problem but no solution to that. It seems this issue sneaked in at some point. I was getting aware of it when suddenly notifications to non-member posts did not work anymore. Everything else seems still to work. So, what is the prefered solution here? Is it possible to "repair" focal? There is python2.7, python3.6 and python3.8 installed currently. Or do I need to switch to a supported distribution like debian something? Wait for ubuntu 24.04? I myself am agnostic about the difference, and probably prefer to keep things the way mailman3 recommends. The questions are: 1. What could be explained to the user to convince them the new method is preferable. 2. Can this be customized with a Setting? (Not that we will end up modifying it. Just curious). Thanks.

I think I tracked down the related django error for that message. mailmanweb.log says MySQLdb.OperationalError: (1366, "Incorrect string value: '\\xF0\\x9F\\x98\\x8A. ...' for column `mailmanweb`.`hyperkitty_email`.`content` at row 1") but collation is utf8mb4_general_ci on the table. Do I need to maybe specify it in settings file?

One quick follow up. I'm making a subscribe request for a moderator. I'm passing in list_id, subscriber, and role (moderator). The request is returning a 201 response, but when I shell into the mailman server and inspect the list directly it shows there are no moderators. I've confirmed the list id, and I can see a list of regular members, but when I use the command line, the only version of the query which shows members is the default: `mailman members <list name>`. I assume I'm doing something wrong, but I'm not seeing it.

Mark, thank you for the quick reply. We will most likely need to migrate the lists over a period of time. So the DNS cannot be changed at the moment. Both servers have different FQDNs. Any suggestions on what we can do?

I have been a happy camper running mailman3 on a vps I rent from a vendor, running CentOS 7. CentOS 7 is past end of life, so I moving over to a new machine running Kubuntu 20.04 LTS. I have been searching the intertubes and have seen a bunch of people having headaches trying it. So... Is Ubuntu 20.04 cool with mailman3? Should I go ahead and give it a shot or use a different distro? Should I do the apt install, the virtualenv install, or try the docker install? thanks billo

Hi Abhilash, I checkout the v0.5.2 for testing my upgrade from 0.4.6 and noticed, that the docker-image-version is still set to 0.4 in docker-compose.yaml. Is there any reason for it or should it be set to 0.5? I´m still using my good old mariadb. I did not find any upgrade-informations about breaking-changes. Do you have any experience with migrating from 0.4.6 to 0.5.2 on mariadb? Best regards Chrclaus

There are quite few discussions (back to 2020) dealing with the variable max_day_to_hold and the (non-) handling of the set value, I found for example Marc's comment https://lists.mailman3.org/archives/list/mailman-users@mailman3.org/message… : I'm really not sure what you are looking to do, but I can tell you that while the max_days_to_hold list attribute exists and can be set, the actual discarding of held messages older than max_days_to_hold is not implemented. Thus the setting currently does nothing. My question: Are there any plans to bring this into action, so that held messages are really discarded after that number of days? (like it was in mailman2)?

Hi, I am looking for some advice: If we use the virtualenv install method, how does one keep track of security updates for all the installed dependencies? I can think of: - Upgrade regularly all installed packages inside the virtualenv. This might break mailman3 if there are incompatible updates. - Try to track all dependencies and check if there are security updates published. Mistakes were made, and for while every single outbound email bounced. I've fixed the mistakes, but now in my largest and most active email list, every single user's delivery status is "Disabled by Bounces". Is there a way to bulk fix this? Dear All, We have a Mailman3 instance with around 500 mailing lists. Most of the mailing lists have 5000 subscribers. Because of some misconfiguration in the postfix, posting for 1000 users has been bounced. Until we realized what happened, the mailman had set delivery_status to "disabled_by_bounces." for many subscribers. Now, I am unable to locate any command or an API call through which I can change the delivery_status back to enabled for 1000+ users. Can you please guide me on how I can do this programmatically using cli (I will write a bash script) or using an API call? Regards, Hitachi.

I upgraded my Fedora distro from v.40-41. I did pip install wheel mailman psycopg2-binary When running the mailman command, I get alembic.util.exc.CommandError: Can't locate revision identified by '8cc1f79f4459' How do I solve this? Thanks, Lars

[MM3-users] Join a Mailman 3 list?

Hi. Getting back to this... Some log of what I'm doing. * First git fetch; git pull on all parts. Started new envs to simplify rollback etc. * activate the new 3.5 venv. ( I run the commands one at a time, but this is more compact in text form:) > cd git/mailman; python setup.py build; python setup.py install > cd ../mailman-hyperkitty; python setup.py build; python setup.py install > deactivate activate 2.7 venv, then > cd ../mailmanclient; python setup.py build; python setup.py install > cd ../django-mailman3; python setup.py build; python setup.py install > cd ../postorius; python setup.py build; python setup.py install > cd ../hyperkitty; python setup.py build; python setup.py install So far no errors. Just warnings. Backups: * deployment directory (as user with rw in directory) > tar -cvzf backup.tgz deployment_directory * postgres databases (as user with postgres-priv) > pg_dump maiman | gzip -9 > mailman.bak.gz > pg_dump mailmanweb | gzip -9 > mailmanweb.bak.gz Create new .wsgi-file based on mailman-suite (I used the kludge in the script to get the python path correct) Change apache2.conf to point to new venv and new wsgi-version Updated the mailman3wrapper.sh I use for init to start the service. I could not get hyperkitty interface to run so I deactivated it and set mailman as index instead. It complains that a column is missing, but I cannot get the migrate script to run so I decided that I do not need the archiver as I currently don't use it. So I will have to get back to this and either remove the archiver completely or get it to run.
