This is not a single queue/multiple server setup. It is multiple queue/multiple server. I.e. The queue entries are named based on a hash of the message and each instance processes its own slice of the hash space. So, with 2 slices and a large recipient message being processed, there's a 50% chance that the next message will wind up waiting. -- Mark Sapiro <mark(a)msapiro.net> The highway is for gamblers, San Francisco Bay Area, California better use your sense - B. When pip is doing an upgrade of the xyz package, it renames the existing package as ~yz and then ultimately deletes the old ~yz package after successfully installing the new xyz. In this case, the upgrade was aborted because of the Django<3.1 constraint in mailman-web and apparently pip then installed Django<3.1 and left the ~jango* directories behind. -- Mark Sapiro <mark(a)msapiro.net> The highway is for gamblers, San Francisco Bay Area, California better use your sense - B. This is a bug and you have found the correct solution. The issue is that although `language` is provided in the call to UserNotification, that doesn't affect the translation of the Subject. This is now reported at https://gitlab.com/mailman/mailman/-/work_items/1287 and I will fix it. -- Mark Sapiro <mark(a)msapiro.net> The highway is for gamblers, San Francisco Bay Area, California better use your sense - B. The From: should be unchanged from the incoming post unless the list is anonymous or DMARC mitigations are applied. In the case of anonymous lists, the From should be the list's address and in the case of DMARC mitigations it should be something like User Name via listname <list-address>. In either case, the list address should be list-name@list-domain where list-domain is the list's email domain. If the address is being rewritten as test(a)subdomain.myhost.tld it is probably Exim doing it. -- Mark Sapiro <mark(a)msapiro.net> The highway is for gamblers, San Francisco Bay Area, California better use your sense - B. "Oh, of course, in your settings refresh_cache needs to be set to 1, you have it set to 0", or something obscure like that. Or who knows. I manage 3 production mailman 3 servers and a development server. All 4 are running the current (as of today) heads of the GitLab branches installed in a venv. The versions of some dependencies probably vary, but all use django_q2-1.6.2 one uses Django-4.2.11, two use Django-4.2.6 and one uses Django-4.1.13. They all use memcached as the cache backend. I don't know what you mean by the refresh_cache setting as I have no information about such setting. All 4 servers are able to delete threads in HyperKitty with no issues. -- Mark Sapiro <mark(a)msapiro.net> The highway is for gamblers, San Francisco Bay Area, California better use your sense - B. With ``` [paths.here] var_dir: /opt/mailman/mm/var [mailman] layout: here ``` The logs are in `/opt/mailman/mm/var/logs/`, not `/opt/mailman/web/logs/` and `STATIC_ROOT` should probably be `/opt/mailman/mm/static`, but it could also be `/opt/mailman/mm/var/static`. > Was I meant to create the directories "web/logs/" and the "mailmanweb.log" file at some point, or were they meant to get created during the mailman-web install process? On 11/2/25 07:30, dap1--- via Mailman-users wrote: > I may have found the problem but would like confirmation before I mess things up.. The proxy stuff added to apache.conf asks for the modules mod_headers.c and mod_proxy.c. They do not exist in /etc/apache2/mods-available. However, none of the modules in that directory are file type 'c'. In any case if those modules are not loaded would not that explain my problem? I'm not sure it is appropriate to add those modules with a2enmod. If they don't exist in mods-available, they needed to be added with apt or whatever the package manager is in your distro. If they are in mods-available but not mods-enabled, they can be enabled with a2enmod. The docs assume that if you see required modules in IfModule statements in the config you are adding, you would ensure those modules are enabled. Perhaps this assumption is unwarranted, but there is a line somewhere between an installation doc and a tutorial on system administration. -- Mark Sapiro <mark(a)msapiro.net> The highway is for gamblers, San Francisco Bay Area, California better use your sense - B. In other words, > why is there a template being used in some instances and on others a > "mailman notify command" is being used? The notice sent at the time the request is generated is built from a template. The `mailman notify` command is intended to be run periodically via cron set up by the site admins to send a summary of then outstanding requests to the list admins. You should receive the initial notice built from a template of each request as it is generated as long as the list is sent to send immediate notices. The notice sent by `mailman notify` is a summary of all requests outstanding at that time. If all the requests have been handled by the time `mailman notify` is run, it won't send you anything. > Are there different methods for people to use to request a subscription? Yes, but that's not the explanation for your question. Subscription can be requested via a web UI or via email to the list-join or list-subscribe address or via a join or subscribe command sent to the list-request address, but all methods result in the same notices to the admin. > By the way, Brian at EMWD has been extremely helpful to me already and, > as he stated, he informed me that this is an issue with Mailman 3 so I > thought I'd try getting the answer directly from this group.
