[MM3-users] Templates and docker-mailman

I have mailman installed through docker-mailman and I'm trying to get rid of the footer decoration in our messages. Based on earlier threads, I have placed an empty file on the host running Docker at: /opt/mailman/core/var/templates/site/en/list:member:generic:footer But this is not being honored by the mailman container. I have restarted all of the containers. Is there something else I need to do?

I am making a serious attempt at installing Mailman 3 using docker. I have a CentOS 7 server setup via Linode. I am using the following documentation to setup a Mailman 3 server: https://xiaoxing.us/2018/01/02/Deploy-Mailman-3-on-AWS-using-Docker/ I have Docker, Postfix, and Nginx installed and working fine. The installation of the Mailman 3 container went fine. However I am getting the following error when I go to test Posterius via shell: curl http://172.19.199.3:8000/postorius/lists/ curl: (7) Failed connect to 172.19.199.3:8000; Connection refused I assume this has something to do with uwsgi which I have no experience with. Appreciate any assistance with getting Mailman 3 up and running. Thanks! Brian Carpenter

So it looks like no database was setup. My understand is the docker installation does that: The default compose file do these things: Run a wsgi server using [uwsgi](https://uwsgi-docs.readthedocs.io/en/latest/) for the Mailman's Django based web frontend listening on http://172.19.199.3:8000/ . It will run 2 worker processes with 4 threads each. Run a PostgreSQL server with a default database, username and password as mentioned in the docker-compose.yaml . Run mailman-core listening an LMTP server at http://172.19.199.2:8024/ for messages from MTA.

Ok I just discovered the docker-compose-mysql.yaml file. I assume I can just use that file: docker-compose-mysql -d Is that correct? Do I need to remove the previous docker installation that I did using docker-compose.yaml? Sorry for being so needy. This is the 2nd time I am installing an application using Docker. The first one was Discourse which had really good installation instructions. I am struggling with the instructions for Mailman 3 via Docker.

I have tried to understand the concept of pre-approved messages, but I'm spending way too much trying to figure it out. Help! The scenario is as follows: Mailman installation with hundreds of lists. Each list's owner is only supposed to add/remove members, so approving/rejecting messages is not in the "job description". Then we have a small group of superusers who will be the ones sending documents etc to all 800 lists. In Postorius this doesn't seem to work - you can change "show list on index page" via the settings, but the value isn't saved. Hi, I just found out that gmail uses ARC (sometimes, at least). Is there support for that in Mailman 3? Without having had the time (yet) to read about in depth it it seems as if ARC is intended to solve at least some of the problems that mail lists have with DKIM. Probably causes others... It might be that no support really is needed in mailman so that just milters in sendmail, postfix etc. might do the trick. regards // David

Hi to all, I am trying to setup mailman3 with the Docker Image. Everythings works relative nicely but I am blocked by the Postfix integration part. I have a small postfix server that is delivering mails to known domains and an alias map. The standard use case assumes that the external postfix is only routing mails to the mailman lmtp. Hi. I am trying to install mailman 3 on RHEL7. Docker install is not a possibility. I am trying to install it using a bundler by following https://media.readthedocs.org/pdf/mailman-bundler/stable/mailman-bundler.pdf, but after logging in as mailman, I can't do virtualenv venv. It works if I login as root, but still fails during buildout. In short, I need help. Has anyone of you guys installed mailman 3 on RHEL 7 or CEntOS 7? If so would you share me detailed instructions? Is it possible to customize the look at feel of the web interface at all? I have some lists that really require that subscription requests include full name, to make the workload on the moderators, well, workable in keeping a closed list tight. I've found where the "Your name (optional)" text is in list_forms.py, but modifying that strikes me as a poor plan. Changing that text would be lovely. Actually making that field required would be seriously awesome. Is this possible in the current code base (3.2.0) without doing ill-advised things modifying source code? I like the controls that MM uses. What I have and need: a member database [name, address, email, date dues paid, etc]. So I can do this 2 ways: 1) select name, email from members where xyz > file. Login to MM empty member list - which is kind of painful then load file and send the email. Then repeat for NOT xyz or 2) roll my own php script where I select from and if (xyz) Aemail else Bemail Problem with #2 is I lose the discussion part. <sigh>

[MM3-users] Domain Resolving Issue

I am running a Mailman 3 server with about 5 list domains configured on it. Most of them resolve quickly both to Postorius and HyperKitty. However there is one domain that resolves very slowly. Once it does, access to other pages/tasks go quickly. If you don't do anything with that domain in the browser after about 5 minutes, it takes its time again to resolve. What could be causing this? The webserver is Nginx. Not sure if this is a Mailman 3 issue or not. Brian

[MM3-users] Hyperkitty CPU usage

Hi I have hyperkitty running and noticed that the process 'python manage.py runjobs minutely' is running for over 70h now and is constantly using 100% of a CPU core. That can hardly be intended, but I don't know why it's doing that. As far as I could see, this job mainly updates the search index. Running 'python manage.py rebuild_index' only takes about an hour, though, so I don't see why this would take so much longer. The text search is not working in the first place, so that might be connected as well. I'm currently running the v1.2.2. Regards, Alain

Are you using images with "rolling" tags? If yes, you should try to switch to "0.2" tag and the new release will be tagged with the same one. I am importing 25 years worth of archives from a list I am migrating. I seem to be able to get messages in from a converted Listserv archive format munged to a proper mbox format, and they turn up quite nicely in the all threads view. But with this many years of archives, it would be good to get the side bar panel to update. It does not at present. How do I fix this? Running the usual django-admin commands has no effect, but at least they don't fail. Andrew

In my tests where replies go to the list, when a person uses the email client? So far a reply to the original message and a reply to a reply to a reply all go in the same thread. Is this standard? Do I have to warn users not to have endless Re re re re? And the other question is what happens if a user sends a message via email with a new subject? Does the list accept it as a new thread? Is it possible to use Amazon SES with Mailman? Despite my best efforts, I have conclusively verified my sending domain, but Amazon SES rejects mails with the 'sender email not verified' message. If you verify a domain, you do not have to verift individual senders. The help from amazon SES mentions it looks at several headers, but I am not sure what is what. Has anybody had success with this? Hello, Thank you for your help with the moderation status. My next question - I have two lists from Yahoo to import. I’ve migrated them through groups.io and have a convenient export. I now have all the data in formats I can handle. (json file for members, mbox for archives.) What’s the best way to import hundreds of users, setting their mail delivery status and moderation status at the same time? (There doesn’t seem to be a command line option for adding members anymore where you can also set their delivery status.) I’ve looked at the documentation, but couldn’t figure out what to do. By any chance does this or the other message you posted Brian have to do with my case where after my October message to 500 subscribers, I checked recently and found all my members are gone? I was concerned that after the upgrade (which I am sure is related) that somehow my subscribers were lost because of some bug. Which brings up another question—I don’t see a way to download subscribers in a list, which would be useful in situations like this or when migrating.

I can access the web interface, I've imported lists, etc. I'm now trying to do some simple injection testing via command line. But I seem to be missing something. I've tried using mailman inject with the filename option to one of the lists I've imported but still no luck. Some members cannot get past the email verification when they create their accounts. They insist that they have looked in their spam folders. Their email addresses they entered are correct - the are able to log into their accounts with the right email address. But they get the message saying that a confirmation message was sent and if they don’s see it to contact us. 1. Who is ‘us’? My members are asking... 2. How do I help them? I tried subscribing them to a bogus list with pre-verified email, but that did not work, so both they and I are stuck. Tried finding help in archive, but did not see anything. Yes,it makes more sense to concentrate on just one aspect, as you suggest: I'll focus on the delay I see when trying to delete a nonmember via the Postorius web interface. However, I decided to do a clean rebuild of everything first, to make sure I'm on firm ground. It's taking a bit longer than expected. Hi, I am following the guide here: https://mailman.readthedocs.io/en/latest/src/mailman/commands/docs/create.h… and am falling at the first hurdle. command = cli('mailman.commands.cli_lists.create') NameError: name 'cli' is not defined. I am running the command in the mailman shell. Doing a help("mailman.commands") works so Python can see that. I thought it might require pyCLI so I installed that but still no joy.

Do you plan to reintroduce the de-duplication feature so that if a mail list subscriber is on multiple email lists that are cc'd/bcc'd they only get the message one time? Are you aware of solutions feature outside of Mailman3 core? Say filtering in postfix-mta? (might complicate tracking of dups in postfix) For "mailman core", could we filter in outbound send of mailman? Example - could the processing pipeline be modified to track/discard duplicate msgs?

I just have promoted a member to a moderator. Now when he logs in to Postorius, he gets the message "There are currently no mailing lists.". I have set "Show list on index page" to "no" before. But as a moderator, the list should be shown, right? I mean, all lists are shown to the administrator also. When I manually enter the complete URL, the moderator can see the list. I think this is a bug. Moderators should see their lists. What do you thing? Olaf

Hi Ruth, I had a similar issue before and noted how the Docker system does this. In mailman.cfg do something like: [webservice] hostname: mailman-core.Domain.tld port: 8001 Set hostname to something that resolves to the current IP that you want external clients to connect to the REST interface on, potentially manipulate the Hosts file on the local machine if needed. If you set ``` [webservice] hostname: greyarea-post.cam.ivimey.org ``` or maybe just `greyarea-post` would do, and then add to `/etc/hosts` on `greyarea-post` ``` 0.0.0.0 greyarea-post.cam.ivimey.org ``` or whatever name you used for `hostname` this will get gunicorn to bind to the public interface and will include the proper hostname in the `self_link` responses.

And speaking of reverse DNS, I do have a valid PTR record that maps to the domain of my server. But that domain will never match the sending domain for outgoing mailman mail for two reasons: 1. Mailman keeps the from header intact, so the sending domain can be anything. 2. Even the list domain can be any number of domains since I host more than one domain on the server. So I hope there is not an expectation that the rDNS domain match the email sender domain. If so I'm toast. Is it just sort of a smell test to see if the server looks legitimate? Thanks again!

I can create a list, add members to the list, but when I create a new thread, I only get it on the email from the same domain as the list. While all the other members of the list, they do not receive the thread. I tried to check the logs, but I don't see anything significant. What can I check? Thank you in advance Max

Hi there, i also deleted the website example.com, while I tried to configure my mailman 3 site. Now I get a Server-error, when I try to open my mailman3 sites: "An error occurred while processing your request" I tried to fix this problem by changing the SITE_ID=2 in my settings_local.py. But nothing helped, also the SITE_ID=0 did change nothing. I made a "/etc/init.d/apache2 restart" to ensure, that the settings are loaded again, but it didnt help. Is there anything I can do, besides reinstalling all django and mailman 3? Mailman Version 3.2.1, Python 2.7.16, Django 1.11.28 Thanks for any hints :-) Wolfgang

OK, but inside say the mailman-web container, doesn't mailman still have a file descriptor open and pointing to the old (now rotated/renamed) log file? - I don't see how doing the rotation on the Docker host aloneis going to lead to mailman logging to a new log file. I am working through installing mailman3 on Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS / apache 2.4.41 / postfix 3.4.13 and have a couple of questions. I've installed Django, cloned the mailman-suite repo, installed and tested apache with Mod_wsgi [ according to https://tecadmin.net/install-apache-with-python-mod-wsgi-on-ubuntu-20-04/ ] and it worked fine. Now I am at 'Setting up a WSGI' server in the MM3 instructions where it says I am to configure uwsgi.ini file. Does that .ini file go in /opt/mailman/mailman where other .ini files reside? In setting up the apache virtual server [ according to https://docs.mailman3.org/projects/postorius/en/latest/deployment.html?highl ight=apache#apache-with-mod-wsgi ] I do not find a postorius.wsgi which WSGIScriptAlias points to. I see where Torge Riedel is running the mailman service under systemd, but I'm having trouble doing that. I don't see a mailman option that doesn't detach as a daemon. Did I miss something?
