Do not "just start with sqlite to get it running and then I’ll migrate it to something else down the road.” There is currently no validated way to migrate a mailman3 instance from sqlite to something else, and by “no validated way” what I actually mean is “no one has managed to get this to work, me included.” Put in the extra effort to start with posgresql or mysql/mariadb up front. Hi Mark, Thanks for the response. Unfortunately I'm currently stuck with the junk shipped by Debian. Yet another reason to move to a standalone install and avoid their broken packages. Thanks for your help. After trying I found that it only worked when I set the [language.en] charset to utf-8. If I didn't set this but only set default_language in [mailman] section to zh_TW it still sent ? in the welcome messages. I commented in the issue. Thanks, Franklin

But I failed to notice the dates on those 'admindb' messages: They were from the day of the upgrade, about 30 minutes before decommissioning MM2.1. And the docs do say explicitly to deal with any pending tasks before doing a cutover. The task-pending message that MM3 sends to list owners and moderators just says generically to check the dashboard, without providing a URL. I ran both on the original archive, cleanarch made no changes and check_hk_import just retported the number of messages. As it turns out, the message was imported, but with the dodgy email as sender which was fixed by the insert/update as per my comment. Hope you have some success with the redacted mbox example.
