[MM3-users] Mailman 3 Installation Packaging

by ddw David Wilson

Salutations; I understand that work is in progress to provide a convenient installation tool to facilitate getting the suite of requisite programs installed and working harmoniously with a minimum of hassle? I assume that involves some combination of containers and/or virtual environments to insulate and isolate issues and facilitate portability. In addition, it would entail Mailman 3, Hyperkitty, Posterius and also Django, etc. The database selection of PostgreSQL or other. Other optionals to be configured would be the email utilities such as Postfix, etc Personally, my server of choice would run Centos. I gather Mark Sapiro was working on this as well? *Is there sufficient progress to warrant believing that such a capability might exist in the 2016 August - September time frame as was suggested some time back? Or are there any revised time-frames? Or an approximate estimated road-map?* Best regards. Dave Wilson

[MM3-users] Re: Is it possible yet to install Mailman 3 for Ubuntu 22.04?

by Eggert Ehmke

I can confirm the virtualenv method. It works well on all Debian derived systems like Ubuntu, and you are independent of the package release cycle of the distribution. My system works on Debian 11, Mailman3, MariaDb, uwsgi, Apache, Postfix. No problems so far. Regards, Eggert Am Freitag, 14. That's just weird. I guess the test is expressed "len(recipients) < maximum_recipients"? It would be easy to change "<" to "<=", but "backward compatibility" (and yes, it would be an annoying and mysterious change if you're using max_recips = 2 to enforce "no CCs" and after an upgrade CCs started sending annoying dupes to your subscribers). I wonder if it would be worth having an explicit backward compatibility setting so that we could change these things going forward. Steve

OK, thanks. Before getting to mistune, this command, run as mailman in a venv: pip install -U mailman postorius django-mailman3 hyperkitty mailman-web uwsgi Mailmanclient produced this error: .. Attempting uninstall: mailman-web Found existing installation: mailman-web 0.0.6.dev9+gc606169 Uninstalling mailman-web-0.0.6.dev9+gc606169: Successfully uninstalled mailman-web-0.0.6.dev9+gc606169 ERROR: Could not install packages due to an OSError: [Errno 13] Permission denied: 'WHEEL' Check the permissions. The command also said I needed to upgrade pip. Doing that produced a similar error. How to resolve this error? Thanks again. dn
