Looks like upstream won't-fixed it, so I guess it was an intentionally backward-incompatible change and the template files will need some minor reworking? -- Jeremy Stanley

So instead of sudoing the command as www-data, I just did "django-admin compilemessages" as root after changing to directory "/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages". Kind regards Nils
