[MM3-users] Re: Editing "automatic responses" tab i Postorius does not work

by David Krantz

But this one is already exposed. But I cannot change it anyway as the tab requires URIs for the different templates to allow saving. I do not use those URIs as I have configured the defaults as I like them. I tried once and it failed so I decided to set the defaults instead. cheers. // David On Sun, May 21, 2017 at 3:48 PM, Mark Sapiro <mark(a)msapiro.net> wrote: > On 5/21/17 5:22 AM, David Krantz wrote: >> >> I am trying to change e.g. the value of "notify admin on membership >> changes" through postorius. > > > There are still many settings not yet exposed in Postorius. [MM3-users] so many instances of mailman.cfg

Question: I've five copies of mailman.cfg on my box. How can I tell which one is actually being used please? -----Original Message----- From: Mark Sapiro <mark(a)msapiro.net> Sent: Friday, November 26, 2021 11:06 AM To: mailman-users(a)mailman3.org Subject: [MM3-users] Re: mass subscribers disablement!? Do you have the bounce processing notifications `Notify owner on disable` and `Notify owner on removal` set to `Yes`. If not, set them. Then, what's in the notices you receive? You might also consider setting `verp_probes: yes` in the `[mta]` section of mailman.cfg. This will avoid some issues with users being disabled/unsubscribed due to list posts being rejected as spam. -- Mark Sapiro <mark(a)msapiro.net> The highway is for gamblers, San Francisco Bay Area, California better use your sense - B. I will send you more detail about this off list as details about the T-bird UI are off topic here. > This subscriber is not very savvy about email, and doesn't seem to understand fully when I tell him how it works, so if I start talking about headers, that's a PITA, too. Most of those problems go away if they put an association of RADG (Risk Analysis Discussion Group) with radg(a)lists.radg.us in their address book. We chose the "use your own URL" option. The actual server address is deu.mailmanlists.eu; I don't know whether their customization of the MM3 installation might cause some of the problem. > > My understanding is that all of the recent posts are missing the poster's name, after behaving as expected for some time. Something must have changed, but what is baffling me. If you have any further ideas, fine, but don't waste a lot of time on this. Mailman, both 2.1 and 3, have been modifying the From: header for DMARC in exactly the same way for years. If anything changed is this regard it is specific to the deu.mailmanlists.eu installation, but I doubt it was Mailman that changed, particularly because you are still seeing the From: as it always was. It is much more likely that the users T-bird changed. -- Mark Sapiro <mark(a)msapiro.net> The highway is for gamblers, San Francisco Bay Area, California better use your sense - B. Dylan

Mailman is trying to add a message to the digest of the press.dpr-pb.lsmgr.nic.in list, but the /var/lib/mailman/mailman/var/lists/press.dpr-pb.lsmgr.nic.in/ directory doesn't exist, presumably because the list has been removed. When i > tried to unshunt the mails they moved to the bad queue. How do i find > whats wrong here? If this is the Debian package, you should be working with Debian. See <https://wiki.list.org/x/12812344>. > Mailman Core Version GNU Mailman 3.3.10 (Tom Sawyer) > Mailman Core API Version 3.1 > Mailman Core Python Version 3.13.5 (main, Jun 25 2025, 18:55:22) [GCC > 14.2.0] There is a compatibility issue between Mailman 3.3.10 from PyPI and Python 3.13, but this is apparently fixed in the Debian package. See <https://lists.mailman3.org/archives/list/mailman-users@mailman3.org/message…> and near the end of <https://lists.mailman3.org/archives/list/mailman-users@mailman3.org/message…> Mails are shunted because of some uncaught exception in processing. See <https://lists.mailman3.org/archives/list/mailman-users@mailman3.org/message…> for more info on dealing with shunted messages. Messages can end up in the bad queue in multiple ways. One way is content filtering ends up with an empty message and the list's content filtering Filter Action is Preserve. This requires ``` filtered_messages_are_preservable: yes ``` in the [mailman] section of mailman.cfg. The only other way messages end up in the bad queue is in reprocessing messages. When a message is picked up for processing by a queue runner it's extension is changed from .pck to .bak. Then if that runner crashes for some reason without finishing processing of that message, the .bak file remains and when the runner restarts, the entry is reprocessed. If unpickling the .bak throws an exception or if reprocessing the same message is tried 3 times without success, the message is placed in the bad queue. The following errors have nothing to do with messages in the shunt or bad queues. They are the result of trying to log in to the web UI with the fedora oAuth login method which is apparently misconfigured. > Traceback (most recent call last): ... > TypeError: OpenIDProvider.get_server_settings() missing 1 required > positional argument: 'endpoint' > ERROR 2026-02-27 20:50:19,995 1769748 django.request Internal Server > Error: /mailman3/accounts/fedora/login/ > Traceback (most recent call last): ... > TypeError: OpenIDProvider.get_server_settings() missing 1 required > positional argument: 'endpoint' ... > ERROR 2026-02-27 20:51:20,841 1769748 django.request Internal Server > Error: /mailman3/accounts/fedora/login/ -- Mark Sapiro <mark(a)msapiro.net> The highway is for gamblers, San Francisco Bay Area, California better use your sense - B. Mailman 3 consists of several pieces. See <https://mailman.readthedocs.io/en/latest/src/mailman/docs/introduction.html…>. As it says there, Postorius and HyperKitty are separate, web based applications for list management and archiving respectively. Both of these are Django projects - Django is a Python web framework. What you refer to as hyperkitty users are actually Django Users. When you create and account and/or log in at Postorius or HyperKitty, you are creating/logging in to a Django account. When you are logged in, Django, and thus Postorius and HyperKitty know who you are. If you aren't logged in, they don't. > 2) Only for hyperkitty users, you can login, go to > https://list.tokyoprogressive.org/postorius/lists/discuss.list.tokyoprogres… > and click the big red unsubscribe button. You need to be logged in for this so Postorius knows who to unsubscribe. > 3) Also only for hyperkitty users, log in and click the dropdown at the upper right, select Account and click the Delete Account tab or go directly to > https://list.tokyoprogressive.org/user-profile/ and click the Delete > Account tab or go directly to > https://list.tokyoprogressive.org/user-profile/delete This deletes your Django account, but does not affect your list memberships. > (Guessing that #3 will not unsubscribe the person and--if they have already done 1 or 2, failing to do number 3 is not going to be a big problem. Am I right?) That's right. The important thing is Postorius itself knows nothing about lists or list settings or list members. It gets and/or sets this information by communicating with Mailman core. You saw an example of this when you changed an archive from public to private. Postorius told Core to make it private and Postorius would then tell you it was private because it would get that information from Core. But, it required a daily cron job to propagate that setting to HyperKitty, so HyperKitty didn't get the memo until later. I hope this helps rather than adding confusion. -- Mark Sapiro <mark(a)msapiro.net> The highway is for gamblers, San Francisco Bay Area, California better use your sense - B. Dylan

I should have said ` mailman shell`, not `mailman-web shell`. Insert "circular problem" here. When I DO NOT have the module loaded in the configuration, `mailman shell` works. Since that was functional, I went into the shell and executed this: > from mailman_customizations.hooks import MailmanCustomizations This worked fine, but obviously importing the class doesn't necessarily *activate* the class. So something is up with how I'm *supposed* to activate the plugin in the config, and we know that it's visible to Mailman in its shell, but it can't autoload it. So, again, not sure where to look next for debugging. Thomas
