OK. You are using Mailman Client which is a bunch of Python bindings for Mailman core's REST API and which is intended for use by HyperKitty, Postorius and Django-Mailman3 to communicate with Mailman core via its REST API. If you are using `mailman shell` you already have direct access to all of Mailman core. Using Mailman Client is just adding overhead to things you could do directly. If you really want to use Mailman Client, rather than invoking `mailman shell` and all it brings that you don't use, you could just invoke your venv's python, e.g., $ /opt/mailman/venv/bin/python or if your venv is active, just (venv) $ python and then import Client and continue as above. > Yes, but like I've mentioned in another thread, I don't have access to the web UI because > I can't get a confirmation link. In addition to implementing the frontend the way I want it (expose/hide feature that are useful/unuseful to our users), I want to fully customize the visual appearance to represent the SaaS offering properly. This is exactly the reason why Mailman core was decoupled from archiving and the web UI. HyperKitty and Postorius were developed because we knew that almost no one would use Mailman core without archiving and a web management UI, but we always hoped that others might develop and contribute other web based archiving and management interfaces. Brian Carpenter of EMWD who tragically died of COVID did exactly that with his Affinity and Empathy PHP applications that interface with Mailman core via the REST API. EMWD hosts lists that use those interfaces, and had Brian not died, some version of those might be open sourced, but his initial thrust was to keep them proprietary for his business reasons. There is an early description of Brian's concept for Affinity at https://gitlab.com/mailman/affinity. > *** we're not try to hide that Mailman is in the equation, just how the overall interface is visually represented *** > > That all being said, on a slight segway... Aside from using the REST API, is it practical or possible to manipulate the database directly? That is, in doing so would it just work or are there extra moving parts when an API request is issued? It probably is possible, but I would definitely discourage it. The REST API should provide everything you need without your having to reimplement everything it does. -- Mark Sapiro <mark(a)msapiro.net> The highway is for gamblers, San Francisco Bay Area, California better use your sense - B. Are you creating a new venv? If so, you need to install Mailman in the new venv following <https://docs.mailman3.org/en/latest/install/virtualenv.html>. If you do that, before installing Mailman in the venv, install aiosmtpd from github with ``` pip install git+https://github.com/aio-libs/aiosmtpd.git ``` You should probably also install Mailman core from gitlab with ``` pip install git+https://gitlab.com/mailman/mailman.git ``` > minutely: > Traceback (most recent call last): > File "/opt/mailman/venv/bin/mailman-web", line 3, in <module> > from mailman_web.manage import main > ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'mailman_web' > > root@bywater /opt/mailman/venv/bin # ll mailm* > -rwxr-xr-x 1 mailman www-data 204 Nov 5 2025 mailman* > -rwxr-xr-x 1 mailman www-data 203 Nov 5 2025 mailman-web* No module named 'mailman_web' is referring to /opt/mailman/venv/lib/python3.14/site-packages/mailman_web. Your installation is probably in /opt/mailman/venv/lib/python3.13/site-packages/ I don't understand what you have started with and what you have done. If you had a working Mailman in a venv with Python 3.13, I think the best approach would have been to install Python 3.13 along side Python 3.14, and you may still be able to do that. If you want to proceed with Python 3.14, I think you need to create a new venv with Python 3.14 and first install aiosmtp from GitHub as above and then maybe mailman from GitLab as above -- Mark Sapiro <mark(a)msapiro.net> The highway is for gamblers, San Francisco Bay Area, California better use your sense - B. First, my apologies for not taking note of your MAILMAN_ARCHIVER_FROM setting in your OP. On 11/22/22 08:52, Hirayama, Pat wrote: > Steve wrote: >> 2. Or should I update settings.py based on what is in settings_local.py? Assuming the `from settings_local import *` is at the end of settings.py, anything defined in settings_local.py will override the definition in settings.py. There's no need to change settings.py. >> 3. Yes, those are all samples. The ``` ERROR 2022-11-22 00:25:40,365 7 hyperkitty.views.mailman Access to the archiving API endpoint was forbidden from IP 172.31.0.1, your MAILMAN_ARCHIVER_FROM setting may be misconfigured ``` message comes from https://gitlab.com/mailman/hyperkitty/-/blob/master/hyperkitty/views/mailma… which only occurs if '172.31.0.1' is not in MAILMAN_ARCHIVER_FROM. Given that it is in MAILMAN_ARCHIVER_FROM as defined in settings_local.py, the only thing I can conclude is that the Django settings actually used is not the settings.py you think it is. I don't know offhand even what wsgi service is used in the docker container or how it is configured, but it needs to set its working directory to the directory containing settings.py. -- Mark Sapiro <mark(a)msapiro.net> The highway is for gamblers, San Francisco Bay Area, California better use your sense - B. Postorius since 1.2.3 does not show subscription requests waiting user confirmation, only those waiting moderator approval. Thus, if the list's subscription policy is confirm or confirm then moderate, the subscribing user will be sent an email requesting confirmation. If the user hasn't answered that email, the request is pending user confirmation, and since 1.2.3, you won't see it in Postorius. [Update: this is fixed in 1.2.4] > What to do? 1) have the user find the confirmation request email and confirm, or 2) wait for the request to expire (default 3 days) 3) using mailman shell or the REST api or direct interaction with the database, find the token and confirm it.
