I've created https://gitlab.com/mailman/mailman/-/issues/735 for this and I've also done an experiment and found what I think is a workaround. If you set ``` [webservice] hostname: greyarea-post.cam.ivimey.org ``` or maybe just `greyarea-post` would do, and then add to `/etc/hosts` on `greyarea-post` ``` 0.0.0.0 greyarea-post.cam.ivimey.org ``` or whatever name you used for `hostname` this will get gunicorn to bind to the public interface and will include the proper hostname in the `self_link` responses.

There was some off list back and forth about this, but this is actually a known issue, <https://gitlab.com/mailman/mailman/-/issues/473>. The avoidance is to subscribe to MIME format digests or to adjust the list's content filtering so filtered messages are plain text only.

I neglected to mention `migrate`. All 4 Django management commands, `collectstatic`, `compress`, `compilemessages` and `migrate` should be run after any upgrade.

I just tested this with the heads of the GitLab branches for Postorius and Mailman core, and I don't see this issue. I did see an issue in that if the footer template did not end with a newline, the footer wasn't added, but I didn't see any looping behavior. With a Postorius template, what do you get from ``` curl -o - https://example.com/postorius/api/templates/list/listname.example.com/list:… ```

Just to complete this thread, the GitLab issue is https://gitlab.com/mailman/mailman/-/issues/836. The issue is fixed in aiosmtpd 1.4.1 and the solution for Mailman is to upgrade aiosmtpd to 1.4.1 or later.

It turns out that there were two bugs involved: https://gitlab.com/mailman/mailman/-/issues/903 and https://gitlab.com/mailman/mailman/-/issues/904, both now fixed for the next release of Mailman 3.
