It only actually does anything at intervals defined by the run_tasks_every setting in the [mailman] section of mailman.cfg, default 1 hour https://gitlab.com/mailman/mailman/-/blob/master/src/mailman/config/schema.…, but it still wakes up and comes into memory every sleep_time which defaults to 1 second. It was held for no subject and when accepted was delivered. in all cases, the notice to the admin, the message in the held message view, the message delivered to the list members and the archived message; the message body was intact I did the same test with implicit destination with the same result. I even tried posting the same message to list(a)example.com and list+z(a)example.com resulting in two held messages which I accepted one at a time and the only difference was only the first accepted message was archived by HyperKitty because of the duplicate Message-ID:. Both were archived with content in the prototype archive. If you are really on Mailman 3.3.7, your result should be the same. Even on 3.3.5 which first introduced the possibility of content being lost, this shouldn't happen on posts to a single list You could try these same tests on a test list on your installation. I would be interested in your result. I actually have another level below that, /opt/mailman/mm/, but this is only for convenience to separate things as I also have directories for the git branches and for local patches, so if we are just working with /opt/mailman/, you can put your Django settings.py and settings_local.py files there. I also put various other config things there like Mailman's var/ directory Django's static/ directory mailman.cfg mailman-hyperkitty.cfg gunicorn.conf and an empty __init__.py file so Django can import settings. It is happening because the logrotate script (maybe /etc/logrotate.d/mailman3) sets the user to 'list'. change that to 'xyz'. They affect delivery of incoming mail to Mailman. Your issue is with outgoing mail from Django. There are various settings that affect this SMTP connection as described at https://docs.djangoproject.com/en/5.1/topics/email/#smtp-backend The defaults are EMAIL_HOST = "localhost" EMAIL_PORT = 25 and for the optional settings EMAIL_HOST_USER = "" EMAIL_HOST_PASSWORD = "" EMAIL_USE_TLS = False EMAIL_USE_SSL = False EMAIL_SSL_CERTFILE = None EMAIL_SSL_KEYFILE = None Have you set any of those to other than default in your Django settings? That is located in `$var_dir` and the value of that depends on the settings for ``` [mailman] layout: ``` and ``` [paths.<layout_value>] var_dir: ``` in mailman.cfg. I'm not certain, but I think `/var/lib/mailman3/` is correct for the Debian/Ubuntu package. The other thing that affects this is the value of the URI for the template in the database. This is somewhat tricky. The docs are at <https://docs.mailman3.org/projects/mailman/en/latest/src/mailman/rest/docs/…>, but there isn't an example of retrieving URIs via REST. I.e. something like ``` curl -urestadmin:restpass http://localhost:8001/3.1/lists/f2p2-test.udfcd-lists.org/uris ``` should work, but returns a 404 when I try it on one of my lists that has a URI. I look in mailman's database with a query like ``` select name, context, uri from template; ``` What you are looking for is a row with `name` = `list:member:regular:footer` and `context` = `f2p2-test.udfcd-lists.org`. That needs to be an actual list member's email without a trailing period. The fact that mbr is None means whatever you provided is not a member of the listname(a)mailman.tld list. You may wish to make custom versions of that and other templates. The templates and their default values are at https://gitlab.com/mailman/mailman/-/tree/master/src/mailman/templates/en You can make custom versions of templates in two ways. You can create if necessary a /opt/mailman/mm/var/templates directory (it probably already exists). Within that directory, sitewide English templates are put in the site/en/ directory, domain specific English templates are put in the domains/<domain_name>/en/ directory and list specific English templates are put in the lists/<list_id>/en/ directory. For templates like this, you probably want sitewide ones.
