Assuming the message is accepted by the user's MX, the user can check a spam/bulk/junk folder and if the messages aren't there, complain to their ISP about messages being silently discarded. Your log entries showing the message successfully delivered to the MX can provide evidence. Other than that, you need to ensure that your outgoing messages are DKIM signed, and that your outgoing MTA server has full circle DNS <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forward-confirmed_reverse_DNS>. It can also possibly help for the server's domain to publish a DMARC policy even if that is `p=none` -- Mark Sapiro <mark(a)msapiro.net> The highway is for gamblers, San Francisco Bay Area, California better use your sense - B. You need to apply DMARC mitigations. Normally mitigations are only applied if the From: domain publishes DMARC p=reject or p=quarantine, but recently this has become problematic. For example, gmail.com pubpishes DMARC p=none yet google servers effectively apply p=reject to mail From: gmail.com. Mailman >= 3.3.9 and Postorius >= 1.3.9 allow setting dmarc_addresses to a list of email addresses and regexps matching addresses and domains to which DMARC mitigatations will be applied regardless of puublished policy. For older releases and for cases where domains are not known in advance one can always set dmarc_mitigate_unconditionally True to apply mitigations to all mail. -- Mark Sapiro <mark(a)msapiro.net> The highway is for gamblers, San Francisco Bay Area, California better use your sense - B. I **think** you may have something like location /static/ { alias /opt/mailman/web/static/; } in nginx on cloudflare, but since cloudflare is not the Mailman server, /opt/mailman/web/static/ doesn't exist there. I can't be sure on how to configure this without knowing the details of how requests get from cloudflare to mm3-lists.kictanet.or.ke and from there to the wsgi server. However, if cloudflare just proxies the request for /static/ to the Mailman server and nginx on that server has the above `location` directive, that may do it. -- Mark Sapiro <mark(a)msapiro.net> The highway is for gamblers, San Francisco Bay Area, California better use your sense - B. Not really. In Postorius 1.3.6 there is a `Users` view that will display users and their create date and it is ordered by create date. Then each user's entry has a `Manage` button which goes to a page which among other things, lists their subsubscriptions. So, you could find the users of interest via this interface, but unless you developed a screen scraping script, it would be a multi-step manual process. > in any case, this might be related: > before i received your email with the 'mailman shell' snippet, i scraped > some bits of my django knowledge and visited > <https://lists.example.com/admin> (the django admin interface), and > noticed the list of users there. > so i scraped that page for users (assuming that this was the list of > registered users). > then i get myself a list of all subscribers in my instance, using a > crude `mailman lists | grep "@" | while read l; do mailman members > "${l}"; done | sort -u`. > finally i calculated the difference between the two sets. > > interestingly the results are quite different from the ones i got from > your script: both sets contain users that are not in the other set. > how come? My script deals with Mailman users who may or may not be Django users. They won't be if they never signed up on the web UI. On the other hand, anyone can go to the web UI and sign up and become a Django user even if they never join any list and become a Mailman user. -- Mark Sapiro <mark(a)msapiro.net> The highway is for gamblers, San Francisco Bay Area, California better use your sense - B. The display_name did change, but the mailing list still displaying the old name. By "the mailing list still displaying the old name" do you mean the membership list in Postorius or something else? And to what REST endpoint did you post the display_name? The bottom line is a user can have multiple display names. Each user has a User record with a display_name attribute, one or more 'addresses', one of which is it's preferred_address. Each one of the addresses is an Address record with it's own email address and display_name. Now, a member of a list can be either a User or an Address. If it's a User, its display_name is that of the user and it's email address is that of the preferred_address, but if it's an Address, its email and display_name are those of the Address. -- Mark Sapiro <mark(a)msapiro.net> The highway is for gamblers, San Francisco Bay Area, California better use your sense - B. The NotLockedError is most likely because a lock has been set with a lifetime and its lifetime has passed and some other process has broken the lock before the original process tries to unlock it. This probably has something to do with the long times to do start/restart. However, the only lock that should be involved is the master lock set by the master watcher, so I don't really understand what might be happening. What is the full traceback from these errors? -- Mark Sapiro <mark(a)msapiro.net> The highway is for gamblers, San Francisco Bay Area, California better use your sense - B. Dylan

Does Mailman 3 support the inclusion of personalized data (like > usernames)? You can enable full personalization which will put the recipient's address in the To: header. In addition both Individual and Full personalization allow personalized information in message headers and footers, see https://docs.mailman3.org/projects/mailman/en/latest/src/mailman/rest/docs/…. This could be used to add a personalized header, but depending on the MIME structure of the message after content filtering, these may be added as separate MIME parts rather than prepended/appended to the message body. See https://wiki.list.org/x/4030707 for more on this. Mailman has no facility other than the above for modifying message bodies. > 2. If yes, how can I do that? Is there any placeholder for that?
