[MM3-users] Re: [migration] to a another server - one year database apparently lacks fields for newer mailman3/django suite

See https://docs.mailman3.org/en/latest/install/virtualenv.html#run-database-mi… You should also run that and `mailman-web collectstatic` `mailman-web compress` and `mailman-web compilemessages` any time you do any kind of update. See https://docs.mailman3.org/en/latest/install/virtualenv.html#collect-static-… et. seq. Running `mailman-web migrate` at this point may fail because of the changes you made manually. -- Mark Sapiro <mark(a)msapiro.net> The highway is for gamblers, San Francisco Bay Area, California better use your sense - B. As I understand above statement, it allows the google servers to send out emails for your domain. Not sure you want that. But you're right, mailman will eventually pick up the -all for the google addresses and apply the DMARC mitigation to google originating messages. Is this assumption correct? Wrong. Mailman in conditionally applying DMARC mitigations considers only the DMARC policy if any of the From: domain. Whether or not an outgoing message might be rejected for DMARC policy or any other reasons has no automatic effect on the application of DMARC mitigations to subsequent messages. -- Mark Sapiro <mark(a)msapiro.net> The highway is for gamblers, San Francisco Bay Area, California better use your sense - B. If you want to use default templates for everything, just remove everything under /opt/mailman/mm/var/templates/. If you want a custom footer for all lists, remove list:member:generic:footer.txt from all the /opt/mailman/mm/var/templates/lists/LIST_ID/LC/ directories and create the footer at /opt/mailman/mm/var/templates/site/LC/list:member:generic:footer.txt -- Mark Sapiro <mark(a)msapiro.net> The highway is for gamblers, San Francisco Bay Area, California better use your sense - B. Yes, but even the Settings -> Alter Messages -> Anonymous list is set to No, the 'anonymous_list': is still True. by Mark Sapiro

On 5/14/19 6:34 PM, Alan So wrote: > Thanks for your explanation. Just verified with a normal user and notice that no lists will be shown when all is selected since all lists are not advertised. I thought that for a user with that issue (as owner of more than 50 lists) at least her subscription or lists with her as owner will be shown. I understand it can be confusing because "all" is one of the "roles" in the "Filter by Role" dropdown, but the unfiltered "all-lists" view is generated differently from the other filtered views and only shows unadvertised lists to a site admin (superuser). That's also why the all-lists view is paginated (and can show more than 50 lists) and the other roles are not. We will be fixing that part. -- Mark Sapiro <mark(a)msapiro.net> The highway is for gamblers, San Francisco Bay Area, California better use your sense - B. Dylan

Try running the `mailman` command itself with no arguments to see a list of sub-commands and then `mailman sub-command --help` to get the details of a particular subcommand. > Now knowing how mailman shell works, anybody could write their own commands, > but I don't want to reinvent wheels. I don't know what it is you are trying to accomplish, but yes, you can create scripts which you run via `mailman shell -run ...`, but is there something specific you are trying to do that is not currently available via the `mailman` command or the Postorius wb UI? -- Mark Sapiro <mark(a)msapiro.net> The highway is for gamblers, San Francisco Bay Area, California better use your sense - B. [MM3-users] Re: Help with troubleshooting mailman3 DNS lookups

Because Mailman doesn't directly access DNS. As far as I know, there are only two pieces in Mailman core that indirectly access DNS. DMARC mitigations look up sending domain DMARC policy via the dnspython package <https://pypi.org/project/dnspython/> and if you have enabled ARC signing in Mailman via [ARC] enabled: yes it uses authheaders <https://pypi.org/project/authheaders/> I don't know what these packages might be looking at to see the old servers, but as far as I know, nothing else is doing DNS lookups. The modules that invoke these are mailman/rules/dmarc.py and mailman/handlers/arc_sign.py. -- Mark Sapiro <mark(a)msapiro.net> The highway is for gamblers, San Francisco Bay Area, California better use your sense - B. See the thread at https://lists.mailman3.org/archives/list/mailman-users@mailman3.org/thread/… You probably ran `mailman import21` for that list as root or some other non Mailman user (`list` with Debian packages) causing that list's templates to be unreadable by Mailman. -- Mark Sapiro <mark(a)msapiro.net> The highway is for gamblers, San Francisco Bay Area, California better use your sense - B.
