If you want prior Mailman behavior, just don't link multiple addresses to one user. You can have a separate user for each address and then each address will be considered as belonging to a different person which is apparently what you want. Going back to your original issue, why do you have a problem? The possible explanations for what you observe are the spam comes from a non-member with a moderation action of default processing or more likely, a sender of the spam as determined by Mailman is a member. If archiving fails the message is stored in Mailman's var/archives/hyperkitty/spool/ directory (maybe /var/lib/mailman/archives/hyperkitty/spool/ in the Debian package). Each new post causes mailman-hyperkitty to retry all the messages. Mailman's mailman.log (I think /var/log/mailman/mailman.log in the Debian package).
