I suspect the issue here is the 'weirdness' is in the Subject: rather than the message body. The script we were using only looked at the body. The message you sent me had a Subject which visually looked like `[PDC] MEGAMillions- Ticket №7383246 9` but the № and the digits were interspersed with strings of unicode zero width spaces, so the decoded Subject: was actually '[PDC] MEGAMillions- Ticket №73832469' where all the unicodes are the zero width spaces. I suspect your current issue is with the Subject:. Actually, looking back at the thread, the prior one probably was too, but we also found messages that had this in the body. To alter the specific script to look at the Subject: just change the line if email.content.find(''*5) >= 0: to if email.subject.find(''*5) >= 0: There's probably a reply there somewhere that has the Subject: but didn't quote the bad stuff in the body. -- Mark Sapiro <mark(a)msapiro.net> The highway is for gamblers, San Francisco Bay Area, California better use your sense - B. If the MTA requires authentication, you need to set smtp_user: and smtp_pass in the 'mta' section of mailman.cfg. By default, these are empty which means Mailman will not attempt to authenticate to the MTA for outgoing smtp. The actual connection to the MTA is via Python's smtplib. See <https://mailman.readthedocs.io/en/latest/src/mailman/mta/docs/authenticatio…> and <https://mailman.readthedocs.io/en/latest/src/mailman/mta/docs/connection.ht…>. -- Mark Sapiro <mark(a)msapiro.net> The highway is for gamblers, San Francisco Bay Area, California better use your sense - B. If so, why is last post at still July 25, 2025? If no, why not. The post must go to the archiver to cause the queue to be processed. If the post was archived and the July 25 messages are still queued, what's in Mailman's mailman.log. There should be error messages and tracebacks indicating the issue. -- Mark Sapiro <mark(a)msapiro.net> The highway is for gamblers, San Francisco Bay Area, California better use your sense - B. So far we have not determined what the issue is. Until we do, we don't know in which module it is. It could be in outgoing runner involving something in the list's configuration or membership that isn't in the "1:1 copy" or it could be something to do with the message itself. It could even be an OS error such as "out of memory" due to the large number of list members. -- Mark Sapiro <mark(a)msapiro.net> The highway is for gamblers, San Francisco Bay Area, California better use your sense - B. That would be > especially true it if were quoted-printable, since any relevant MIME > headers would (presumably) be pure ASCII and therefore unencoded. The Python email library says the message is defective. Mailman's lmtp runner in turn rejects the defective message with a 501 status https://gitlab.com/mailman/mailman/-/blob/master/src/mailman/runners/lmtp.p… It could accept a defective message or one with specific defects, but this is problematic for further processing. For example, at least one MUA, Thunderbird, renders such a message with an empty body. -- Mark Sapiro <mark(a)msapiro.net> The highway is for gamblers, San Francisco Bay Area, California better use your sense - B. Those numbers seem "normal" but you really have to look deeper to understand if you just have a bunch of processes sitting in memory because the memory is available and nothing else wants it, or if there's real memory contention going on. The article at <https://wiki.list.org/x/4030711>, while written about Mailman 2.1, has some general information which may be of interest. -- Mark Sapiro <mark(a)msapiro.net> The highway is for gamblers, San Francisco Bay Area, California better use your sense - B. You need to get the template from Postorius. Maybe something like http://localhost/postorius/api/templates/list/list.example.com/list:user:no… Where http://localhost/postorius/ is the URL you use to access Postorius, maybe mailman3 instead of postorius. Once you figure that out, POSTORIUS_TEMPLATE_BASE_URL is just the scheme and domain part of that. -- Mark Sapiro <mark(a)msapiro.net> The highway is for gamblers, San Francisco Bay Area, California better use your sense - B. Subscription requests says 0 because it only counts those pending moderator approval, but if you pull down the menu and select Pending Confirmation, it should show the request and enable you to delete it, and then mass subscribe will work. -- Mark Sapiro <mark(a)msapiro.net> The highway is for gamblers, San Francisco Bay Area, California better use your sense - B. In the Postorius held messages view, click on the message's subject to open a dialog showing the messages content and a dropdown to set the moderation for this user and a box to enter a reject reason if you are going to reject the message. If you want to accept further messages from this yser, it is best to set moderation to Default processing rather than Accept immediately as the latter bypasses other checks that could result in the message being held. Note that even though the dropdown says Set member moderation, it works for non-members too. -- Mark Sapiro <mark(a)msapiro.net> The highway is for gamblers, San Francisco Bay Area, California better use your sense - B.
