[MM3-users] Re: Upgrading from 3.1 to 3.2

The gotcha is the web UI (postorius, hyperkitty, django-mailman3 and thus the WSGI process under which Django runs is Python 2.7 in Mailman 3.1 and associates and Python 3.5+ in Mailman 3.2 and associates. This migration can be tricky depending on your exact configuration. The most difficult situation I encountered was on a server that also supported MoinMoin which is a Python 2.7 WSGI process. Thus I needed both Python 2.7 and Python 3 WSGI support. I wound up leaving the Python 2.7 mod_wsgi in Apache and proxying the Mailman 3 URLs to gunicorn for Python 3 support. -- Mark Sapiro <mark(a)msapiro.net> The highway is for gamblers, San Francisco Bay Area, California better use your sense - B. It may be in the asynchronous.io "rolling release". -- Mark Sapiro <mark(a)msapiro.net> The highway is for gamblers, San Francisco Bay Area, California better use your sense - B. Dylan

by Mark Sapiro

On 10/7/20 2:52 PM, Jonathan M wrote: > What ways are there to move a forum to an existing Mailman 3 list, so that each old forum message is displayed in the archive as if it had been an email? Can you export the posts from the forum in a format that looks like email messages? Python's standard library mailbox module can be used to read a set of messages in any of Maildir, mbox, MH, Babyl, or MMDF format and write them to a mbox format file which can then be imported into HyperKitty. The requirements are that the exported messages have headers like an email message. At a minimum, From:, Date: and Subject:. See <https://docs.python.org/3/library/mailbox.html> for more detail about mailbox formats. -- Mark Sapiro <mark(a)msapiro.net> The highway is for gamblers, San Francisco Bay Area, California better use your sense - B. That brought along all of the footers (naturally), and now I'm trying to get rid of them but failing miserably. I've spent a fair bit of time reading archives of this list, but I'm still stuck. > > Here's what's configured... > > In /etc/mailman3/mailman.cfg: > > -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- > var_dir: /var/lib/mailman3 > # Root directory for site-specific template override files. > template_dir: $var_dir/templates ... > Anyone have suggestions of what I can do? rm -rf /var/lib/mailman3/templates/lists/* This will allow the template search to fall back to the default. If you want to customize that, you can put custom templates in /var/lib/mailman3/templates/site/en/. -- Mark Sapiro <mark(a)msapiro.net> The highway is for gamblers, San Francisco Bay Area, California better use your sense - B. The problem list probably already had an archived message from 2018. If you don't specify a --since= date for hyperkitty_import, it only imports messages newer than the newest existing message in the archive. You can run it again with, e.g., --since=2000-01-01. It won't reimport the messages already imported because of duplicate message ids. -- Mark Sapiro <mark(a)msapiro.net> The highway is for gamblers, San Francisco Bay Area, California better use your sense - B. Does example.com/mailman3/lists/mylist.mydomain work after upgrade? > Why and who changed my settings? The latest mailman-web upgrade added entries to urls.py. mailman-web<0.0.8 would recognize only the /mailman3/ and /archives/ urls. mailman-web=0.0.8 still recognizes those and now also recognizes /postorius/ and /hyperkitty/ urls. If /postorius/ and /hyperkitty/ urls are not working for you now, the issue is probably in your web server configuration. -- Mark Sapiro <mark(a)msapiro.net> The highway is for gamblers, San Francisco Bay Area, California better use your sense - B. In particular is there a mailman-web directory there? Also, /opt/mailman/venv/bin/python is probably a symlink to some system python file which may no longer exist or may be a version other than Python 3.9. Does /opt/mailman/venv/bin/python invoke Python 3.9? If not, is there a Python 3.9 anywhere on your system? If so change the /opt/mailman/venv/bin/python symlink to point to it. -- Mark Sapiro <mark(a)msapiro.net> The highway is for gamblers, San Francisco Bay Area, California better use your sense - B.
