The only domains you need to consider are those of your list members, probably only gmail.com, and maybe googlemail.com. Either your mailman.cfg does not specify a fixed directory for var_dir or the mailman command(s) you run do not specify a fixed mailman.cfg. This would add significant complication to upgrading Mailman core. I think a better approach would be to store custom attributes in a separate database table.
