There is no user or list admin workaround, but the defense is a fairly simple patch. See the MR at <https://gitlab.com/mailman/mailman/merge_requests/322> and the commit at <https://gitlab.com/mailman/mailman/commit/37b3f62afdf225a8e29b66fcefcdb56b9…>. The commit changes 7 files, but only two are needed. The rests are tests or reverting <https://gitlab.com/mailman/mailman/issues/256> which isn't necessary. This has nothing to do with whatever WSGI server (uWSGI, Gunicorn, Apache mod_wsgi, ...) is used to support the Django applications (django-mailman3, hyperkitty and postorius). After setting these variables and restarting mailman3 and mailmanweb, the mailman user still cannot find a hyperkitty_import command (neither can root, btw). Again, I installed MM3 and Django/Postorius/Hyperkitty using the venv and web docs previously referenced. On the plus side, all lists now appear in the admin web page. However, lists created from the admin page do not appear in a site list page, even though all lists are in the same site/domain. Finally, how to make these exports permanent? I did not see this covered in the migration doc above. This is on a Debian system where the mailman user's shell is bash. Is this simply a matter of adding environment variables in the mailman user's .bashrc file? Thanks dn

How to approve moderated messages via email?

That's still a plausible scenario in principle[1] so I don't much like it (and I bet that's why Barry didn't implement it), but it would be straightforward to implement. Footnotes: [1] Ie, a moderator falls for a phish; then Ms. Cantor[2] probably got everything she needs to spoof approvals. It's questionable whether a spammer would go to the trouble of identifying a moderator, phishing them, reading their mail, and using the email approval to spam for profit, of course. But I can easily imagine it if somebody hates you. On the other hand, if they have your Gmail password, and you use your Gmail account to authenticate to Postorius, they can do it by web, so disallowing email approvals is no help. Security is hard .... Maybe we should implement 2FA for privileged roles. [2] Original "Green Card Lawyer".

Mailman 3 defines the list attribute accept_these_nonmembers, but it is not currently implemented to actually have any effect, nor is it exposed in Postorius. At the present, I think you would have to create a user record with the address and add that user to all lists with role nonmember and moderation_action 'defer' to apply subsequent tests or 'accept' to unconditionally accept posts from that address. The dynamic sublist feature is controlled by the users (thus "dynamic"), using specially formatted email messages to tag threads as "sublists" and to subscribe to them or suppress them. This was implemented internally by the Systers so it has not been contributed back to the Mailman project, and it was integrated with other Systers-specific features, so it wasn't just a matter of a git merge, If that sounds as good as Mailman-2-style topics to you, I can add/emphasize it on our GSoC task list. (It was on our GSoC task list for several years (maybe still is, I need to check that since contributor applications are now open.) The Systers users are developers themselves, so using email commands isn't much of a burden. I don't think it would be impossible to add sublist control features to Postorius, but it's nontrivial, and might require a second project to implemnt after the initial port. I may add the Mailman-2-style topic feature as well, although in my opinion the dynamic sublist feature is a better match for Mailman's core audience (lists that support open source development organizations). After some more digging into this I found a way to reproduce it using a much simpler URL, like the following (but with the real name instead of example.org) https://example.org/mailman3/postorius/lists/?items=x The error comes when Django is trying to process the template django-mailman3/django_mailman3/templates/django_mailman3/paginator/pagination.html which contains two for-loops of the following kind: {% for key, value in request.GET.items %} [... doing something with key and value here ...] {% endfor %} It seems like Django then gets confused by the different "items" variables involved, I think the value from the "?items=x" part of the request URL gets used instead of the "request.GET.items" (both are called "items" but they contain different things. I don't know if the for-loops in that template could be done differently to avoid this. There is something similar at https://github.com/django/django/blob/main/django/views/templates/technical… where the corresponding for-loop looks like this instead: {% for k, v in request_GET_items %} [...] {% endfor %} So there they write "request_GET_items" instead of "request.GET.items" for some reason. I don't know if doing it like that is possible in case of the mailman template, just mentioning it because it looks like it could be another way to achieve the same thing.
