By the way: Ansible is not the only such application, but a Friend of Mailman used to work there (I think he's since been transferred elsewhere after they got acquired by RedHat), so if people want to work on this kind of thing, we may have more resources vs. Ansible than say Chef or Puppet. I'm not sure we want to maintain an Ansible configuration, but I imagine we could stick it in contrib as "an example that works for somebody YMMV unsupported NO WARRANTY". :-) Steve

It can occur when Mailman's out runner can't read a template. You need to check ownership and permissions on mailman/templates in the code tree and Mailman's var/templates directory which probably has permissions errors from running inport21 as root. Unable to update templates

Hi, I'm unable to update the custom welcome template (list:user:notice:welcome) after it's initial creation. When the custom welcome template is created (in Postorius), and a user then subscribed by the list-owner (using mass subscribe), the welcome message is received as expected. However when I update the template, the databases are updated correctly but the Welcome message is still sent with the old template content. mailman.templates mailmanweb.postorius_emailtemplate Additionally, if I delete the template and create a new one the old content still gets sent. I cannot find where this content is written or is being cached. Any clues on tracking this bugbear down gratefully received. I think you're correct that it doesn't apply to nginx, but the symptom is not the same. It is not a Debian issue per se. It is an Apache change that got installed with a Debian update, but the underlying issue is with Apache. SQL Schema request

There is no function in Mailman to dump out the backend schema, although SQLAlchemy may have one. AAAAaaaannnnddd ... bingo! https://docs.sqlalchemy.org/en/14/faq/metadata_schema.html#how-can-i-get-th… Don't know if that does what you need, but it's the best I can come up with without reading tons of code. :-) There's probably a similar function that allows you to dump all the data in an SQLAlchemy-specific format that you can load back in to a different backend and SQLAlchemy will do the schema translation. Also, have you considered that Django keeps an independent set of tables for HyperKitty and/or Postorius? Same comments apply, except that Django has its own ORM. https://docs.djangoproject.com/en/3.2/ref/django-admin/#dumpdata Finally, don't the backend databases have some sort of "dump schema" command? That might be more useful. Note that I got lucky (yay, Google-fu!) with "DBM dump schema" on the first try so "dump" seems to be the right search term.

I guess my message wasn't clear? Let me try again. I have not made any list settings or sent mails because I do not want my archive filled with a lot of test mails. I am simply trying to understand a) why there are supposed to be two ways to sign up--one where you just get the messages by email and one where you are able to interact with the archives and send from the web interface. Example, as seen here---> https://list.tokyoprogressive.org/postorius/lists/discuss.list.tokyoprogres… 1) I was told that Subscription / Unsubscription lets you truly register and that just below that 2) "You can also subscribe without creating an account" lLets you just receive emails but not interact with the archives.post from the web. CONFUSION --> Aside from the confusing use of "subscribe/subscription for both, when I tried testing both options, BOTH sets of emails ended up in my members list. If there is a guide (I was told it is not ready), it would help, but anyway: 3) Can anyone help me understand the problem above? 4) Will it go away if I enter my settings? Will my users (this who truly register with a password) be able to get the archives and post from the interface? The next post is about the other issue:

is this the complete sitename.conf? I had a situation where I had a location / definition for caching before the mailman one.
