I am responsible for the mailing list of a local church. Recently the church was moved to using Mailman for this. When a simple message is created and sent to the mailing list most email addresses received it correctly but those with an Outlook or Hotmail account received attachments and not the message. There are three attachments and one of them has to be opened to view the message.
Am I missing some setting?
First question. Is this Mailman 2.1 or Mailman 3?
This list is for Mailman 3. The corresponding list for Mailman 2.1 is https://mail.python.org/mailman3/lists/mailman-users.python.org/
That said, your issue is because the list is adding a message footer (or possibly header or both) to the delivered message. This is discussed in the FAQ at https://wiki.list.org/x/4030707
That FAQ says there are Mailman configuration things you can do. Exactly what you do depends on the requirements of your list and whether this is Mailman 2.1 or Mailman 3. If you don't require that HTML or other non plain text parts be delivered, you can adjust content filtering to remove them and create a simple plain text message which won't have this problem. Or you can ensure that no message header/footer is added. How you do these things depends on your Mailman version.

This is a much better answer than mine, and the likely culprit. Sorry, but I'd missed the part where you said attachments were getting through.
