Postorius is currently using this to mass unsubscribe. AFAIK there is an open issue in core to add such functionality

mailman membersdoesn’t currently have a —remove option.I found Rest API call for single user removal but I am questioning it's effectiveness given that I need to use this operation to potentially remove 1500 members
