Update: the other person on the test list has indicated they are receiving the emails now - and that gmail may be the cause of the issue by filtering out copies of the message I had sent. (my fairsay.com address is gmail hosted, but another is not and is simply forwarded there).

...so perhaps the problem is solved (will do a little more testing to verify!)
