You do not need a bleeding edge software on production servers. You just need bug free, whihc is easy done with packages on distributions, if maintainers do it well enough.
If you think the versions of software provided by distributions are bug free, you're living in a very bizarre realm that doesn't mirror reality. I've been running production systems for over 20 years for anything from private educational institutions to large scale multinationals. You don't get reliable production services running the ancient bug-ridden software provided from distributions. Anyhow, that's getting way off topic for this list.
