migration plan and auto responder
Hi,
I am writing this in the hope to get some good advises for migration lists from Mailman2 to Mailman3. Thanks a lot in advance. Here is the requirements:
- During the migration the old system shouldn't process the emails for the list under migration in the normal way. It should send an email, and only one to the member who sent the original email to the list saying the list is under migration. I know I could do this by auto responder, but the original email would be processed and sent to all members, which I want to block .
- After migration the old system should send, per auto responder again, an email to the member who sent to the list, mentioning the new address (the domain is a new one, the list name the same), but again not sending the original email to the list members.
- No hackers, robots, spammers should get the new list address. The lists are all hidden.

Hi,
The short version of this question is:
How May I setup on Mailman2 to send an auto response to the member who sent an email to the list, but do not send the original email to any list member?
I need this functionality during and after migrating the list to a new list server, where the domain name has to be changed. The auto response should inform the list member, who sent the email to the old list, about the name of the new server and domain.
Thanks Mohsen

In the web admin UI, go to Auto-responder, set autorespond_postings to Yes and set your message in autoresponse_postings_text.
You probably also want to set Privacy options... -> Sender filters -> member_moderation_action to Discard and on Membership Management... -> Membership List under Additional Member Tasks, set everyone moderated.

I answered a bit too quickly. Just s/probably/definitely/ in the above.
This works because the autoresponses are sent before the moderation checks.

Thank you so much Mark! It worked perfectly.
